This game grabbed me right from the start and I found myself wanting to consume everything it had to offer. Every secret, upgrade, or piece of equipment. The combat is difficult but entirely fair. You always feel completely in control of your actions and are given plenty of fun tools to take down enemies. After finishing it I pretty much knew that it would be my #1.
Dark Souls 3 is a fantastic Dark Souls game. I see tons of people calling it a greatest collection of the first two games. I don't entirely get that. To me it's just more Dark Souls which I am always up for. Now we just need Bloodborne 2.
After the disappointing Uncharted 3, this game really represented a return to form for the series. The character moments early on (basically everything in the Drake household) are what make this series special and are what make Naughty Dog games so good. I love how they wrapped everything up with the epilogue.
I played this game very late in the year (literally finished it hours from the start of 2017). It's a bit hard to describe why I like this game so much but I just love everything it was doing story wise. It had one of my favorite moments in a game all year (the sequence in the classroom). The feel of the dialog system is something that I don't think this game gets enough credit for. The ability to interrupt dialog at almost any time or stay completely silent and have other characters react appropriately is very impressive. In a year where Stranger Things took the world by storm, Oxenfree very much feels like the gaming equivalent. Loved it.
Overwatch made TF2 style shooters fun again for me. The characters are amazing. I would love to just watch a tv show about them. Junkrat is the most fun to play.
While this game had some VERY damaging issues surrounding it's launch, I think the gameplay itself stands up extremely well. The lower bar for execution necessary to play most characters really helps open up the game for more people.
That ending tho.
I am glad that this game got recognition from the GB crew for the moment of discovery of the environmental puzzles. When I first discovered them in the sand temple area I almost jumped out of my seat. Those puzzles make the game for me and overshadow the actual puzzles. If it weren't for the fun of looking twice at every circle or line in the environment of the game then it wouldn't be on my list.
While I don't think that ZTD is the best entry in the Zero Escape series (that would be VLR), I wanted to have this game on my list as a recognition of the series as a whole. The story is bat shit insane and doesn't always make the most sense, but the delivery method is very unique and adds a ton to the experience.
I have wanted this sequel for so long. I have played every Picross game that has come out on 3DS. More please.
