Quite a few games were in contention, but these games rose above the rest as the ones I enjoyed the most.
I limited it the best I could to games released in 2016. DiRt Rally had a PC physical and console release in April 2016 (I played entirely on PS4), The Witcher 3 is representing its expansions, and plenty of Minecraft: Story Mode was released this year. Everything else definitely came out this year.
I will add a small description of why I love each game when I feel like it.

I put this low on the list simply because the full game is a 2015 release. That said, both of Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine are great expansions, and they deepened my enjoyment of a game I put nearly 100 hours into last year. CD Projekt Red have my money and time on call after what they've done with this game. I consider it one of the best RPGs, if not games, of all time.
It's odd that I enjoyed this game as much as I did considering that I have put maybe 2 or 3 hours into Minecraft. Patton Oswalt voicing the main character and the fact that I do actually really love the look of Minecraft are what drew me to into trying it out. I quickly grew to love the cast, and as each episode was released, I always jumped on them and played through the whole thing in one sitting. I have to give props to how they made the villain Ivor from the first story arch into a oddly charming character that I couldn't help but be amused by in the second story arch. Paul Reubens did a great job voicing him.
