Doom

1. Doom

It's the best shooter campaign I have ever played. Metal as fuck, self aware, hilarious, brutal. It is a perfect single player package.

Overwatch

2. Overwatch

The best competitive multiplayer experience I have ever had, blizzard's level of quality with a great and varied cast. Tons of fun. It has been my go-to game for a quick session this year.

Superhot

3. Superhot

I wasn't expecting to come away from Superhot affected by it's story but here we are. An incredibly interesting mechanic that is wrapped by great style. I can't wait to try the VR version.

Darkest Dungeon

4. Darkest Dungeon

The grim tone of this game speaks to me. It's such an amazing, focused style with a surprisingly deep strategic layer. It is oppressive and often unpleasant, but you will power through.

Invisible, Inc.

5. Invisible, Inc.

While it didn't technically come out this year I missed out on it last year. One of the most engaging strategy games I've played in years with a fantastic style.

Titanfall 2

6. Titanfall 2

This game, combined with overwatch, feels like a return of movement-based shooters and I couldn't be happier. The feeling of traversing the environments in Titanfall 2 is unparalleled. A great campaign with some standout moments and super fun multiplayer.

Oxenfree

7. Oxenfree

Great vibe, cool story, loved the style. Very memorable cosmic horror game.

Hacknet

8. Hacknet

I loved the game Uplink back in the day, this felt like a better version of it. It conveys the 00s movie hacker fantasy so well, just let yourself slip into it. Also holy shit the last mission of this game.

Dark Souls III

9. Dark Souls III

It's nothing new but it feels like the perfected version of the Souls formula. A great end to the trilogy.

Firewatch

10. Firewatch

Beautiful art and a great story, some of the story beats didn't hit me as hard as I think the developers intended but I came away from it satisfied.
