Elden Ring Nightreign

2. Elden Ring Nightreign

Strange game. So much of the core is reused from Elden Ring that it kinda shrinks the world, expecting all of these things from the Lands Between to exist in a seperate place. There might be a lore justification, but the game being a lower budget project with reused assets still has an impact of your impression. As "content" the old stuff is fine. Good even! I didn't do a lot of multiplayer co-op in Elden Ring, and the new systems and different pace gives it a lot of novelty. The most surprisingly enjoyable part is seeing some old Dark Souls series bosses repurposed and upgraded, I'm definitely hoping for some more of that in the DLC. But yeah, the game is fun. All the playable characters are very cool and its fun to be them. I love the artstyle. The story parts has the strengths of the vague storytelling of the previous games, and its a bit weaker feeling when its being direct as well. Figuring out how you're supposed to play a match takes a lot of time, but gaining that knowledge is rewarding. I kinda wish there was a way to train solo for the Nightlord bosses though, it takes so long to reach an attempt at it with randoms that I wish I had some time to practice and learn their moves in a different environment. Some other issues, like figuring out what spells to use or just having to have luck with more specific drops for some characters I wish was somehow adressed, but it's hard to tell what needs to be done. One issue with knowing a weapon's type for dual wielding seems to have been adressed though, which is nice.

Gex Trilogy

3. Gex Trilogy

An interesting series of games. None of them great but seeing the evolution from game to game was definitely interesting. I would say Gex 1 having the movement options that it has puts it above the understandably more conservative, Mario 64 inspired 3D games. But they also grow over time. I don't like Gex the character as he evolves into a secret agent, Austin Powers wannabe knock off. But I feel like part of him still has the potential to be a fun platformer hero in a new game that would be its own new thing rather than build on what was established in the 3D games. Also, when he's not doing impressions or making references, which is very rare, he comes off as a fun, cocky, confident and competent hero. I know this collection leading to someone making a bold new reinvention of Gex gameplat that also somehow stays true to his core, while lessening the obnoxious parts, is very unlikely, but it is my hope.
