Arranged in the order I beat them. At the end of the year, I will rank them from best to worst.

Showing 1-10 of 33 items

Persona 4 Golden

1. Persona 4 Golden

5/5 The best cast of characters in any video game, ever. Every moment in this game serves to build the characters' personalities and the relationships between all of them. Any game trying to build believable and interesting characters needs to learn from Persona 4 Golden.

Hearthstone

2. Hearthstone

5/5 My new favorite Blizzard game of all time. I've always been interested in CCGs, but have never played them because they always seemed to have such a huge barrier to entry. Leave it to Blizzard to make something accessible, fun, and deep all at the same time.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward

3. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward

5/5 At first blush, VLR's story seems to be a little too similar to 999's story. But as the plot evolves, VLR does a fantastic job of creating its own unique story while not forgetting its predecessor. I just sincerely hope that a third one will come out to tie up all the loose ends.

DmC Devil May Cry

4. DmC Devil May Cry

5/5 I've never played a Devil May Cry game before, so thankfully I didn't come into this game with preconceptions like "DANTE'S HAIR IS SO STUPID!" Rather, I was blown away by the amazing combat and stylish gameplay. Ninja Theory continues to be one of my favorite developers.

Sleeping Dogs

5. Sleeping Dogs

5/5 As an Asian-American, Sleeping Dogs has a special place in my heart. It also doesn't hurt that the game is damn fun too.

Kingdom Rush

6. Kingdom Rush

5/5 I love tower defense games, and Kingdom Rush is king in the genre.

Transistor

7. Transistor

5/5 I thought the story tried to be a little too esoteric and mysterious for its own good, but I thoroughly enjoyed the in-depth strategy gameplay. The game became more engaging as it got harder. Also, Transistor has the honor of being my first platinum trophy.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

8. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

4/5 Insane story of Metal Gear + stylish action of Platinum = love.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls

9. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls

4/5 The new loot system made Reaper of Souls a ton of fun to play. And as someone who usually plays the warrior/barbarian class in these kind of games, Reaper of Souls made me realize that other classes are usually more interesting.

Ultra Street Fighter IV

10. Ultra Street Fighter IV

4/5 Although I've followed the FGC for years, I haven't played SF4 since Super. But after finally getting my first arcade stick this year, I've gotten deep into Ultra. Now if only I could consistently do my one-frame Rose BnB combo...Gotta get back in the lab and practice my plinking.
