Good Story, Bad Game

by captainofthestars

Proof positive that some video games would have worked better as animated movies / a mini-series. Hats off then to those who actually took one for the team by playing these games so the rest of us could just watch and enjoy the story without having to suffer the gameplay.

In this case, the story isn't GREAT per se, but it is also the case that in this truly awful Batman game, the story is the one thing that isn't totally panned.

At least compared to most of Bioware's pre-Andromeda/Anthem titles, DA II's gameplay trails well behind the rest, involving a lot of busywork, frequently reused assets and locations, fairly uninspired wave upon wave of enemies charging you constantly, etc. But the one area where the game is still up to classic Bioware's usual standards is in the story, which is overall rather bleak but still by far the best part about the game, and the main reason to give it a go.

Now I myself would not go as far as to call the gameplay outright terrible, but with that being said, yeah, this one's a disappointment overall. I do think the story feels like an MCU Avengers movie in the right ways, capturing much of what makes the MCU work when it's operating at its best, but once you've beaten the main story, there isn't much reason to stick around, as the ongoing gameplay loop they try to include with it just isn't very satisfying.
