Here is everything I'm looking forward to in 2025 (so far):

Grand Theft Auto VI is an upcoming video game in development by Rockstar Games. It is due to be the eighth main Grand Theft Auto game, following Grand Theft Auto V (2013), and the sixteenth entry overall. Set within the fictional open world state of Leonida—based on Florida—and its Miami-inspired Vice City, the story is expected to follow the criminal duo of Lucia and her male partner. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdBZY2fkU-0 Chuckle's Take: I can't wait to see what Rockstar has been cooking up since Grand Theft Auto 5... I imagine they will want to build on the dynamic and reactive NPCs they worked on for Red Dead Redemption 2. We already saw some of this with the random encounters in GTA 5 but with the success of GTA Online's role playing, I could see Rockstar putting more emphasis on a living breathing world with random encounters that make every playthrough of the story feel fresh. I could see Rockstar doing some wild stuff with AI in GTA Online to really push the envelope with NPC encounters there as well.
Doom: The Dark Ages is an upcoming first-person shooter game developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is intended to be the eighth main entry in the Doom franchise and the third installment of the modern series, following Doom Eternal (2020). The game narratively serves as a prequel to Doom (2016). It is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S in 2025. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tk8lkmYGWQ Chuckle's Take: Doom has been firing on all cylinders since the reboot for me, the combat is frantic and chaotic but when you hit that flow state of ripping and tearing through demons, replenishing your ammo and heath perfectly in time to get that next glory kill, it all feels just right. I'm really looking forward to this fantasy spin, the trailer kicks ass and I'm ready for more DOOM. 2025 is a good year to go back to hell.
Judas is an upcoming first-person shooter game developed and published by Ghost Story Games. It is Ken Levine's first video game since BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea in 2014. The game is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5_r-un--bA&vl=en Chuckle's Take: As a big Bioshock fan, I need to know what Ken Levine has been working on for so long... All of this talk of "narrative legos" may just be a small improvement over the existing branching narratives we've seen before from other games but Ken has been cooking on this since leaving Irrational in 2014. Over 10 years of development and we know so little at this point. Excited to learn more.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is an upcoming action-adventure stealth video game developed and published by Konami. It is a remake of the 2004 game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which was the fifth main entry in the Metal Gear franchise and the first chronological game overall. Being a prequel set in 1964, the game follows a FOX operative codenamed Naked Snake, who must save a Russian rocket scientist and sabotage the Soviet nuclear superweapon Shagohod, while clearing the United States from Soviet suspicion amid Cold War tensions, and confronting his former mentor, The Boss, who has defected to their side. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKCkjkyIngU Chuckle's Take: I may be wary of a MGS game without Kojima at the helm, but Konami is taking my favorite Metal Gear, remaking it, improving it, AND bringing back David Hayter... Sold. It looks amazing and the updates they are making seem smart and logical.
Ghost of Yōtei is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is a standalone sequel to the 2020 game Ghost of Tsushima. It is set to release for PlayStation 5 in 2025. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z7kqwuf0a8 Chuckle's Take: A sequel to a game that blew me away back in 2020. Ghost of Tsushima was a phenomenal first throw at what is now becoming a franchise with Ghost of Yōtei. I'm excited with the change of scenery, time-jump, and a new protagonist. Jin's story felt complete and retreading that could have been a mistake so I'm interested to see what opportunities Sucker Punch has with the changes.
Elden Ring Nightreign is an upcoming action role-playing game by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. A cooperative spinoff of Elden Ring, it was revealed at The Game Awards 2024 and is scheduled to be released in 2025 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Djtsw5k_DNc Chuckle's Take: Elden Ring with the homies! Officially! What a world, totally didn't see this one coming and so soon! Really excited to see how wild they get with this co-op experiment of a game. A little bummed it's only solo or trios, no duos but I imagine modders will fix that.
Mafia: The Old Country is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K. A gritty mob story set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily. Fight to survive as Enzo Favara in this immersive third-person action-adventure. It is a prequel to the first game and the fourth entry in the Mafia series. The game is scheduled to release for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S in mid 2025. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkdV6NxPOLc Chuckle's Take: As a long time Mafia fan, I'm really looking forward to Hangar 13 taking a step back in time to 1900s Sicily. It would be hard for me not to feel some sort of attachment to this setting with some family roots in Sicily and southern Italy. This isn't my Old Country per se, but I would like this game to feel like coming home to the Mafia series. Sicily seems like a perfect island setting for an open world and I hope they nail that.
The Outer Worlds 2 is an upcoming action role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is a standalone sequel to The Outer Worlds (2019), set in the Arcadia star system that has been colonized entirely by megacorporations. Players will assume control of the protagonist, an Earth Directorate Agent, who is tasked with uncovering the source of emerging rifts that threaten to destroy the colony amidst a factional war. The game is set to be released for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S in 2025. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_rvTE-3S4c Chuckle's Take: Obsidian is one of those studios that I've had my eye on since New Vegas and I really enjoyed the first Outer Worlds. If it's anything like the last one, I expect a fun, explosive FPS ARPG romp through space with a few companions at the ready.
Avowed is an upcoming action role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios. Avowed takes place in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, in the world of Eora. The game is scheduled to be released on February 18, 2025, for Windows and Xbox Series X/S. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULsF7B6bFuU Chuckle's Take: Again, Obsidian is cooking in 2025 and their new ARPG (this time fantasy!) looks exciting and I mean come on... look at that key art, gorgeous. I'm not that familiar with Pillars of Eternity but I'm willing to jump in on Game Pass at no additional cost to give it a shot.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is an upcoming 2025 action-adventure game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is the sequel to Death Stranding, and is written, produced, and directed by Hideo Kojima. It is also the second game of Kojima Productions as an independent entity and the studio's second collaboration with Sony. The title features the previous game's central characters, including Sam Porter Bridges, Fragile, and Higgs, reprised by Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker. They are joined by new characters, Tomorrow (Elle Fanning) and Rainy (Shioli Kutsuna). The game features the likenesses of Mad Max co-creator George Miller and film director Fatih Akin. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbLstJHlC4U&vl=en Chuckle's Take: I need to hurry up and finally finish Death Stranding: Director's Cut so I can jump into Kojima's weird 80's hair metal puppet nightmare. I'm really happy that Kojima has gone full tilt and is indulging. Let this man cook.
