2021 Weekly+ Game Challenge

by mathurin47

Time to clean out the backlog with another weekly challenge. 52 games was successful, so that goal this time is 52+26. 3 games every two weeks. Once again these will be short games since I'm also engaged in another gaming challenge with a friend and I exclude these games from that.

Showing 1-10 of 27 items

Frog Detective 2: The Case of the Invisible Wizard

1. Frog Detective 2: The Case of the Invisible Wizard

A humorous point and click starring a detective who happens to be a frog. Writing was on par with first game, but the game element felt more confined and linear. I will now wait for Frog Detective 3: Corruption at Cowboy County.

Metal Slug 2: Super Vehicle - 001/II

2. Metal Slug 2: Super Vehicle - 001/II

I never knew anyone with a Neo Geo, nor were there any Neo Geo arcade machines in my little town. So my knowledge of that system is largely limited to magazines of the era. I played through Metal Slug 3 in my last challenge and now I've beaten 2. Took 25 continues which is about 75 lives.

3. Mind Snares: Alice's Journey

The first hidden object game of the year. Grabbed a ton of them in a few cheap bundles. This one's not bad, a few of the puzzles were a real pain, but the hidden object and point-and-click sections were fine.

Wheels of Aurelia

4. Wheels of Aurelia

Thought it was just a narrative game, but there is some (awkward) driving involved. Got a bad ending (D) and a better one (A). Seen enough of it for now, but would eventually like to see more of the endings.

House Of 1000 Doors: Evil Inside

5. House Of 1000 Doors: Evil Inside

A few spots had me stumped for awhile until I found the random item I overlooked, but overall the point-and-click was pretty straightforward. I missed the way Mind Snares

Donut County

6. Donut County

A bit of a one-trick pony, but it does throw in some minor puzzle solving along the way. The more stuff you drop in the hole, the bigger it gets and the more stuff you can swallow. The story bits are humorous and break up the stages pretty well. I enjoyed my 2 hours with this game, though a little disappointed the achievements never popped. Game pass bug?

Uncharted Tides: Port Royal

7. Uncharted Tides: Port Royal

Another hidden object game. A few of the late game puzzles were annoying, but I otherwise enjoyed this one.

Newt One

8. Newt One

For a game that bills itself as a nonviolent 3D platformer, I sure had to fight those controls. Movement felt very stiff and the WASD+mouse did not help at all. Otherwise, it's a cute little platformer that can be fun to play.

A Short Hike

9. A Short Hike

A relaxing way to spend an hour or so. Did as many sidequests as I could on my way up the mountain, but I'm sure I missed quite a few things.

Later Alligator

10. Later Alligator

A humorous collection of mini-games. Enjoyed the personality of each of the many characters. There were a few annoying games, but most were good. I did not expect to be forced to learn sliding block puzzle strategy, but I wanted that last puzzle piece.
