2014's Best Games (Or Highlights)

This list, in no particular order, contains the games released in 2014 that I felt are worth mentioning, remembering, and talking about. I won't list games re-released on new platforms or games in beta/early access as I don't think those really should count as real games yet.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War

Valiant Hearts: The Great War

WW1 was one of the biggest atrocities in humankind, though its typically overlooked for the bigger World War 2. This game has an amazing art style and a fun puzzle/platformer mechanic that is both unique and "cute" while still being fun, informative, and emotional.

inFamous: Second Son

inFamous: Second Son

Even if this was a little short and thin for content, the time spent with Infamous was great. Highly recommended, especially for PS4 owners.

Nidhogg

Nidhogg

Great game though not for everyone. Another example of the resurgence of "couch coop" in gaming.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch

Octodad: Dadliest Catch

Stupid but fun. The controls are pretty fun once you get used to them.

The Wolf Among Us

The Wolf Among Us

Yes, episode 1 was released last year but the bulk of this title was released this year so I'm counting it in this year's games. Excellent story, characters, and the dialogue options are a treat to go through.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

South Park: The Stick of Truth

Great for SP fans and oldschool RPG fans alike. Hard to recommend if you don't like SP. I think its a great game on its own merits but the story content is definitely for the SP fan.

Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II

'nuff said. Slightly easy for the first few hours, but still a great game. I didn't get into this as much as I would have liked but it is still fantastic.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls

Excellent content editions that fixed some of the mistakes of the original game.

WildStar

WildStar

Best classic MMO released since World of Warcraft in my opinion. If you are looking for a new MMO look no further.

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Most of the talk concerning this game's story has been so full of hyperbole that I feel it inaccurately paints a false image, but the gameplay is solid. Don't look for variety or innovation, but if you want a classic shooter that's competent look no further.
