I've found 2018 to be a pretty weak year in terms of new releases, but a pretty spectacular one in terms of ports. The list is a ranking of 2018's original games, but here's some honourable mentions to the rereleases of the year:

Return of the Obra Dinn is one of those rare games that manages to be something you've never seen before, and also have incredible pacing, polish, and style. Its unique puzzle and exploration mechanics aren't just extremely engaging, they also always contribute to the story and setting in some way or another. There's no such thing as a "perfect" game, but Return of the Obra Dinn makes that word come to mind.
