I made a concerted effort to track the games I played this year. I also focused on finishing games, something I wasn't quite successful with, but probably more successful than other years.

Absolutely amazing experience. I loved everything about it, from the art design to the acting (especially the acting). The stealth game play, which I generally dislike, even hooked me by the end. I think it worked so well because it helped tell the story. One of my favorite games of the generation.
I'm really surprised to put this so high up on my list. This is the first Tomb Raider game that really hooked me (though to be fair, I skipped quite a few of the previous entries). I played through this twice on the PC and once on the PS3. I may even replay it on PS4 in the new edition. I'm excited for another entry into the series.
I love the Bioshock series. I played through this game twice on the PC and am going through it on the 360 right now (next month it is free on PS3, so I'll probably go through it a 4th time there). The DLC didn't live up to expectations, and I think this game doesn't quite hold up over multiple play throughs like the first two games, but I love it all the same. I think the Bioshock franchise is one of the best things about the last generation.
Another surprise for me. This is a franchise that snuck up on me. I played a little bit of the first game, skipped the second, and only got around to the 3rd game this year (which, after a few false starts, turned out to be awesome). This game kicked it up another notch though. I thoroughly enjoyed the superpowers, which made this feel like a great Crackdown game. It is a shame they didn't use a new city though, since the environments were so familiar by the time I got to this game.
The best pirate game since Sid Meier's Pirates! I still haven't finished the 3rd game and was getting burned out on the series after Revelations, but this reinvigorated my love of the series. It helped that it looked and played amazingly on the PS4. I can't wait to see what they do when they make a game for the new systems, rather than just port it.
Finally, a game that has made me play my 3DS so much that its battery died while I was playing it. The music is great, the game play is fun, and I feel like I'm playing a game worth owning the 3DS for.
Blizzard games are always amazing. I have a soft spot in my heart for Starcraft, but I still think this is amazing. It didn't get me to play too much of the multi-player, but I'll go back and play through the single player again.
I've played through this several times and keep going back to it on my downtime. It is like Game Dev Story, but for the PC. I really hope they make a sequel to this game.
I think I'm supposed to dislike this game, since it has different developers, different voice actors, and the PC version was buggy as hell for the first few weeks. In the end, I still played it to death. The best part of this game is Troy Baker's take on The Joker. The story of this game turned out to be the strongest of the 3 in the series so far.
Really cool, short game that made the controls an integral part of the game play AND narrative.
