Looking at last year's list of games I want to tackle, of the 40+ I only beat 5 and have no interest in the other games. How crazy my tastes can evolve in a year. I did start with Heavy Rain, as promised. Most of the 2023 games will cary over into 2025. If my spending habits matched what I actually play. Here is my game of the year list in order. I am currently studying for a major exam and rather than complete the rest of the Halo series and "Thank goodness you are here," I have had to cut off my gaming habit because my number one on the list really ate up a whole day I had dedicated to study. I am not mad at it and will definitely play that game again. Will finish list, rankings, and write ups the first or second week in the year. I will probably add Penny's Breakaway and Resident Evil 3 since I'm starting those up now and my break was somewhat ruined by studying for state boards. Failed the state boards and I'm not to angry with myself. Rankings are locked and my number one game is Resident Evil 2.

Inevitable solution is right around the bend. Love this. It's going to be tough to rank everything. Well 3rd person shooters continue to be my favorite genre. I loved this game. I have NEVER finished a resident evil and quick glimpse at my collection shows that I own EVERY SINGLE ONE of them. Definitely going to remedy that by beating all of these games. Some of the gore and the gross out stuff is really not that bad. It does make you feel a little uneasy but the gameplay is just so fun. I wonder if by the end of 2025 I could have completed all RE0, RE1, RE2, RE3, RE4, RE4Make, RE5, RE6, RE7, RE8, and the OG RE2, and RE3. I completed 16 games this year so it can be done. Maybe moving to Australia and I own most of these digitally.
This has to be the best licensed game that is based on a movie that really does suck. Quantum of Solace is probably one of my least favorite modern Bond films. I still don't even know what the phrase means. I love my cover shooters. I love my 3rd person mode. I love my FPS. Well this has everything in it. I dropped Astro Bot to play this. I know I like a game when I find myself coming home and playing It slowly over the course of a week. Astrobot failed when EVERY one of the rescued bots was not a Sony property. I hate when my imagination runs wild with possibility and I am forced to believe that if I keep playing I will eventually see what I was imagining. I knew that would never be the case so I got a my moneys worth out of the game. I was hesitant to get rid of AstroBot because of my niece. Then I remembered. I have the original game that she has never even started. If for some reason she gets well into the game I can just buy it over again.
I came back to this game more than a year after I first played it. I did have to cheat a little bit because you never know when you have an unreliable narrator and you don't know what is or isn't true. In this case the book at the beginning was telling the truth, or something like that. This game has lead to me wanting to play Sherlock Holmes, Phoenix Write, and Ace Attorney games. Rise of the Golden Idol and some others. Outerwilds may be something I never try to get into because I have you know, a job.
Universal Studios. Played this version of Minecraft which depicts a melange of Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando. You ride defunct rides like Jaws and Back to the Future. Very emotional experience since I have ridden these rides dozens of times over the years.
Enjoy the combat in this game. Can't stand the MJ sneaking sections which made their way from Spiderman 1 to Miles Morales and now here we are doing it again. I guess if I wanted an action game I could play Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. As of writing this I haven't beaten the game but It is definitely a top 10 game for me. The storyline is captivating without even trying. The action feels really good and that dualsense controller is sublime.
More action than the highly acclaimed Uncharted 4. Enjoying playing this. My 360 only choice has been going well and might come as a shock to a lot of the people on my friends list who are playing the Fortnite, Rainbow Six, and Apex Legends type games incessantly.
Really enjoyed this game. There is more than enough shooting in this game to sate my transition into playing FPS. I currently do have any sense of taste or smell due to a sinus infection. It has me feeling like a robot myself. I'm thinking that I might change up my diet completely now that food is all about texture and not about taste anymore. I can just eat oatmeal and beef jerky. I guess vegetables and fruit. I have gotten a little overweight at 5'11" and 200 pounds. If I could lose 25 pounds that would be for the best. Water and no more soda. That would be the life. Went a played some pickup hockey. Did alright. My breathing sucks since I'm more casually skating when I ref. Definitely not a spring chicken any more. As far robocop goes, I intended to play the entire game with just the hand cannon. I was thinking that there might be an achievement like Dead Space for using the plasma cutter the whole time. I left that premise pretty quickly. The story was obviously about the nature of man versus robots. It got me thinking that I can't understand how people can play all of these fantasy games without a real sense of place. I am trying to play through Red Dead Redemption 2 and though it is set in America it really doesn't use real cities and locations. It doesn't foster my sense of curiosity about the real world, at large. The all I want do is Nuke song was a pleasant little ear worm. I'll probably find myself singing that at some point. Game was definitely a B+. I kept thinking about other games I might want to play like Avatar or Terminator. But as part of my reinvention post misery of being sick.
5th Floor Johnson Hall. Some of my formative years as a gamer. Played a hundred hours (I really didn't have it that bad when I was younger) when I was in college. Never completed all of the missions from front to back. Finally did so this year and enjoyed this game tremendously. Will never get "secret agent" on all of the levels but the nostalgia is truly real for a game that I hadn't played in 27 years. Maybe I could have the same kind of emotion for FFVII but they have truly made that game JRPG long for no reason and I really can't see myself ever playing it. I'd rather replay FFXV because I have some sort of attachment to that game having played through it twice. I think the draw there was the cars and the modern setting. The music was pretty rad too. The gameplay is pure and has lead to a resurgence of me playing older shooters (not CODs) and coming away from them feeling pretty happy. FPS and 3rdPS are still my favorite genres. This game lead me to play through Halo Reach. My goal is to complete the entire Master Chief collection within the next 13 days before the start of 2025. I also want to replay through Gears 5,(finishing Hive Busters), beat Spiderman 2, Chicken Police, Agatha Christie ABC murders, Return of the Obra Dinn, Mafia 1, Mafia 2, and Perfect Dark, So Glad You are Here. All while studying for my FE exam.
Enjoyed Halo Infinite a lot. It plays like PUBG in that is an immense explorarable world and not levels. I kind of wish PUBG had made a single player game (not the Callisto protocol, which isn't bad) like this. I definitely will make a run through all the Halos (including 5 again) before the end of 2024. I guess this will be hotel-fare. When I stay in hotels as I travel the world (currently vibing with going to Portugal, Disneyland Paris, and Venice, Shangai Disney, Hong Kong Disney, Tokyo Disney, Tokyo Disney Sea, and Universal Studios) due to getting relocated to Perth Australia. I will watch the Halo TV shows and possibly get the references due to playing the games. Also, I will look less like a poser when I walk around in my Halo polo.
I really enjoyed the choices in the game. It went on for so long that I feel like it definitely merits another play through to see how some of my choice play out. Games like this and Animal Crossing force me to rethink my whole life. Which is the point. Not K/D ratio. *Beat this twice* It is difficult making choices that conflict with your moral compass i.e. reaching for guns, cracking wise while being held at gunpoint. I do enjoy FMV games, but so many of them are bad and come from random countries like Wales.
