Dragon Age: Origins

1. Dragon Age: Origins

Poured over 150 hours into this beast for the Platinum trophy; best RPG I've played for years.

Darksiders

2. Darksiders

All too easy to dismiss as a Zelda-clone, and there are amusing similarities, but the tight gameplay, 80's action movie dialogue, superb graphics and visceral combat make this a very special experience.

Vanquish

3. Vanquish

Unfairly overlooked, this frighteningly kinetic game is one of the best shooters around. And even more cheesy dialogue!

Final Fantasy XIII

4. Final Fantasy XIII

Flawed for sure, and not always the most exciting or intuitive experience, but it was beautifully done, and eventually became a proper Final Fantasy game. 20 hours in.

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX

5. Pac-Man Championship Edition DX

Too addictive to put down, but blissfully short as a result, this day-glo gem was a star in the downloadable games' universe.

Costume Quest

6. Costume Quest

The JRPG boiled down to it's bare bones, this was easily the most charming game I played all year.

God of War III

7. God of War III

Although it had a disappointing ending, this was one of two games that evoked nostalgia for me this year, taking me back to my carefree days of PS2 ownership.

Rock Band 3

8. Rock Band 3

Once I acquired the keyboard, I couldn't put it down. I thought RB couldn't get any better. I was wrong.

Transformers: War For Cybertron

9. Transformers: War For Cybertron

Brutally difficult in spots, but still the best Transformers game for years. A great vision of the TF universe, wrapped up in a tight 3rd person shooter.

Gran Turismo 5

10. Gran Turismo 5

Not the revelation we were promised, but GT5 took me right back to hours spent in front of the PS2, ploughing hours into GT3. It's not perfect, but no game does bad jazz like GT.
