Just so there's no confusion, this list is about games that are so hard, I never feel like I ever get better at them. I just tend to get lucky or tough it out until I win/get past an annoying part/the game gives up and lets me past.

One of the hardest RPGs I have ever played. I got to the end of the game at level 80+ and still can hardly squeak by every boss. Either I'm missing something, or Valkyrie Profile 2 is just that tough. It's pretty crushing to watch people play through the game with only one character, or beat the game at level 40.
A game I wanted to love, but ended up eating dirt over and over again as the computer trashes me at every turn. Never beat it, but did get far enough to make the aquaintence of the Miami Hammerheads. Interception machines, unstoppable running plays, and the most flawless quarter back in the business- Julius Williams.
No matter how many times I play FTL I am never going to feel any sort of confidence in what I do. There are a million ways to lose, and I'll find more than half before the end of one playthrough. The only hope is to get lucky, and that's not a skill I can improve. FTL: Faster than Death.
More specifically the gameboy version. The tiny screen, questionable hitboxes, and long levels made it so I never had the motivation to beat this game. Mega Man was kind of a somewhat busted game on the NES, and on the Game Boy it's something where I never feel safe.
Hardest top down shooter I've ever played. Unlike Gungeon, where you can make some kind of progress, or Hotline Miami, where you can actually beat levels, the randomness is so vicious the only time I make any progress is when I feel the game has taken pity on me. I guess that's why it glitched out an achievement for beating a loop of the game when I really died as soon as I made it to camp. Brutal man.
