A game I had medium to high expectations for, I've played games for over 15 years now and I've never seen anything like this, seriously blew me away.

2. Assassin's Creed IIAssassin's Creed IIhttps://giantbomb.com/wiki/Games/Assassins_Creed_IIOpens wiki page

Sequels are meant to be worse... not better, Assassins Creed 2 builds on everything Assassins Creed 1 made great in 2007 and even closes all the loops on the problems people had with the original. This was a serious contender for the number 1 spot.

3. Shadow ComplexShadow Complexhttps://giantbomb.com/wiki/Games/Shadow_ComplexOpens wiki page

For a downloadable game this game goes beyond the call of duty in terms of quality. Sets a new level of expectation for all downloadable games.

4. Batman: Arkham AsylumBatman: Arkham Asylumhttps://giantbomb.com/wiki/Games/Batman_Arkham_AsylumOpens wiki page

Batman? In a good game!?

5. Forza Motorsport 3Forza Motorsport 3https://giantbomb.com/wiki/Games/Forza_Motorsport_3Opens wiki page

More Forza = win

6. Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty CityGrand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty Cityhttps://giantbomb.com/wiki/Games/Grand_Theft_Auto_Episodes_from_Liberty_CityOpens wiki page

I spent far to long playing the two episodes, I loved them both in very seperate ways. Over all it was a great edition to easily the greatest game of last year.

7. Pokémon PlatinumPokémon Platinumhttps://giantbomb.com/wiki/Games/Pokemon_PlatinumOpens wiki page

I love me some Pokémans and until Heart Gold/ Soul Silver hits shelves this will have to do :P

9. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2https://giantbomb.com/wiki/Games/Call_of_Duty_Modern_Warfare_2Opens wiki page

...I guess this has to be on here somewhere. I agree that it's fun to play, but it's essentially just an expansion pack.

10. Skate 2Skate 2https://giantbomb.com/wiki/Games/Skate_2Opens wiki page

What a great start to the year, I was expecting at least 3 months of nothingness in 2009 but started really early on with this game. Such an improvement on a game that in it's first incarnation completely buried the Tony Hawks Franchise.
