The games that dominated my childhood

These are the games I played to death growing up through the 90s and early 2000s. They aren't all my favorites, in fact some of them are awful, but as a child I never knew the difference. This is also the list of a child who grew up in England, so it's fairly Mega Drive (Genesis) and PC based up until later.

Warcraft: Orcs & Humans

1. Warcraft: Orcs & Humans

The game that made me fall in love with strategy games forever. I admit I didn't play too much of thisone because I was very young when it came out and I could barely make it past the 2nd or 3rd level.

Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness

2. Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness

Now this game I did play to death, I've completed it several times over with both races, with cheats, without cheats, you name it. Absolutely classic game.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3

3. Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Really I played the entire Sonic library to death, but Sonic and Knuckles was the game I played by far the most, I've completed it countless times now and have most of the levels memorised.

Disney's Aladdin

4. Disney's Aladdin

Yep, loved the movie to death as a child and I played the game a lot aswell, though I never completed it. I owned the PC version which I believe was the same as the Genesis version.

Golden Axe II

5. Golden Axe II

This is the beat-em-up that dominated my childhood, sure I knew friends who owned Streets of Rage, but at the time for me, Golden Axe was where it was at.

River Raid

6. River Raid

The Atari 2600 was way before my time (about 10 years before in fact) but that didn't stop me from playing a lot of it as a kid. I attribute my love of crazy Japanese shoot-em-ups to this game. Yeah it's not nearly as crazy as Japanese shooters but it's still a damn good game.

Defender

7. Defender

The other game I played a lot of on the Atari 2600, most people liked Space Invaders but I really did prefer Defender for some reason.

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior

8. Street Fighter II: The World Warrior

I played a lot of the original version of Street Fighter released on the SNES, partly because I loved it and partly because it was literally the only good SNES game we owned.

Pokémon Red/Blue

9. Pokémon Red/Blue

Yes, I too was a victim of the mass poke craze that swept the world in the 90s. I at one point managed to collect all 150 pokemon in the game due to a lot of time and trading put into this game.

Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition

10. Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition

I once again fell into the Pokemon craze with Pokemon Yellow. Yes, I played pretty much the exact same game through for a second time and came damn close to once again collecting all 150 Pokemon, my efforts were only cut short by...
