Best of 2015

Truth be told. It was hard to find a full 10 this year, but the Top 5 will endure as lasting classics.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Completely riveting throughout.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

2. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Mechanically the best the series has ever been, easily the best Stealth experience since Chaos Theory and Mark of the Ninja. Though I desperately missed the bombast of Kojima's signature off the rails crazyman story times.

Life Is Strange

3. Life Is Strange

Telltale got told.

Fallout 4

4. Fallout 4

My expected #1, lands low. Bethesda's style of toybox has been my personal heroin since Morrowind, their structure has crystallized but become terribly bland in the process. Well short on Skyrim's scope, and short on real surprises. The convergence of the three factions in End Game served only to highlight a real dearth in true player agency beyond content collection. I expect grand things once the Construction element develops into something meaningful in Elder Scrolls VI.

Elite: Dangerous

5. Elite: Dangerous

Elite has been a reliable and trusty wingman all year. Horizons looks set to continue the partnership well into the future.

Grow Home

6. Grow Home

A simple platformer executed sublimely.

Pillars of Eternity

Cities: Skylines
