Life Is Strange

Life Is Strange

"Series like The Walking Dead helped pioneer the format, with games divided into episodes and released over a period of months, but Life is Strange shows the genre’s potential to tackle themes and settings that aren’t typical for games. It’s a series that takes place in a modern-day high school, stars two teenage girls, and covers everything from suicide to time travel."

Rocket League

Rocket League

Novelty and style lead the charge, but this games doesn't find itself decaying after novelties melt away. This game dazzles and gripes at the heart of emotional sports moments, of competition and team collaboration. It holds up, and it's fucking fantastic.

Her Story

Her Story

Adventurous in it's execution, this game is a strong reminder that games can be fantastically surprising in what sorts of things can be thought of as games.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Jaw-droppingly ridiculous and strong fast in it's desire to not give a fuck about what a serious big budget game can talk about. Kojima at his best, even if the game clearly was chopped severely in parts and doesn't seem to match the goals it reaches for, it still makes it farther than any of it's contemporaries.
