Games Completed: 2017 Edition

Part 06. Hopefully mobile games don't wither this list like they did with last year's...

Part VI starting with Ys VI ayy

Showing 1-10 of 19 items

Ys: The Ark of Napishtim

1. Ys: The Ark of Napishtim

Steam version. Game's alright; you can definitely feel that this was created before Felghana and Origin though. Maybe I should have played this series in release order rather than chronological order :thonk:

Titan Souls

2. Titan Souls

Vita version. OK game, had some annoying execution for certain bosses, needed more phase-based fights. Good thing I was watching something in the background while I played this because wew lad that downtime between dying and getting back to the fight again...

Ys SEVEN

3. Ys SEVEN

PSN version, played on Vita. Man did I get BTFO by this game. Going into it I thought that Seven would be to Celceta what VI was to Felghana, a game that shows off the new engine and is good but not great; man was I wrong about that lmao. Probably tied with II as my favourite in the series (sorry Celceta, you've been knocked down a peg) my mans geis tho

Ys V: Ushinawareta Suna no Miyako Kefin

4. Ys V: Ushinawareta Suna no Miyako Kefin

Eyepatch version. cough The "missing link" between the old-style-top-down-bumper-car action of the older Ys games and VI, and you can feel it in how stiff some of the movement and attacking is. Past that (and the wack hitboxes on attacks) this is actually a pretty decent game that I ended up enjoying more than I expected to. yo that guy just dropped from the ceiling and cut that boss in half just as we were about to fight wtf

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky

5. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky

Old JRPG. NPC conversation simulator. Good ass game. PSN hit me up with a sale on SC pls

Nier

6. Nier

This game has one of the greatest OSTs of all time, no BS

Muramasa: The Demon Blade

7. Muramasa: The Demon Blade

Rebirth on Vita. (No DLC - yet) Took me 3 years to beat this game... Started off thinking it was okay but overrated, then had a bunch of problems with system mechanics so I dropped it completely. Only after coming back and fiddling with remapping buttons and swapping difficulties between boss fights (mobs on hard are just annoying but beating bosses without using any items was great) did I really appreciate the game's aesthetic and the gameplay itself. I still think it's overrated, but in the end it's a good game.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

8. Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Ephraim mode. Shoulda played this on Hard instead of Normal or whatever; Ephraim ended up being so buff that he soloed the last boss in 2 turns... if one of the 2 hits on turn 1 was a crit he would have done it in 1 turn. TOO STRONK

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

9. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

Played at a friend's place (still don't have a PS4 yet) helping them platinum all 3 games, then logging into my PSN account and getting the platinums again. Crash 1: Good remake, aside from the jumping physics in some levels (I'm looking at you The High Road). Stormy Ascent ain't shit Crash 2: Went from best of the original 3 to the worst of the remakes. Atmosphere and music are way worse and certain enemy hitboxes are all fucked up (those damn roombas). Shame. Crash 3: Remake actually fixed some problems with the original (RNG waves in jetski levels, easier/more precise airplanes) and aside from wheelie handling is pretty much 100% better! https://twitter.com/DevoidElite/status/887976557926535168

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

10. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

PS3 version, should've got it on Vita instead. Played this before Sora SC (which was a mistake) but the game ended up being pretty good despite me feeling that it dragged its feet a lot in places (free days are too long, field studies could have done with a bit of compacting)... but this is all because I'm doing the "talk to every NPC every time they change dialogue" thing which wears you down pretty fast if you're sitting down and playing a long session. muh lore tho Very interested in playing the sequels! Especially after how anime the ending was, wtf. Knightmare Frames???
