Year in Finished Games: 2014

I dubbed this the year of the weeaboo. Let's see if that holds true.

Showing 1-10 of 15 items

Crusader Kings II

1. Crusader Kings II

Finished(ish) Jan 2014. I played my first campaign for over 70 hours and received 0 Steam achievements. I only did the beginner friendly Irish duke path. I was able to hold the Irish crown and I was poised to take Scotland before time ran out. I really like CKII, but it is taking over my life (and it's showing up in my dreams) so I'm shelving it to make way for other games on my backlog. When I get back to it I want jump into the deep end and work my way up the Holy Roman Empire.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

2. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

Finished Mar 2014. Game crashing bug on the last level, so I watched the last 20 minutes on Youtube. Pretty mediocre hack and slash adventure game. I play any awful game with the LotR license, so I knew what I was getting into. Talking Eagles and an excellent creepy character model of Elijah Wood saved it.

Fallout: New Vegas

3. Fallout: New Vegas

Finished May 2014. Wow, the year of the weeaboo hasn't been going so well. I needed to clear off space from my computer's SSD so I played the biggest game installed. I really hate Bethesda games so I went in expecting to hate New Vegas. Luckily Obsidian wrote a really strong game. The main narrative and side quests were stronger than anything Bethesda has ever done.

Saints Row 2

4. Saints Row 2

Finished May 2014. I wanted something goofy to play where I could drive around and listen to the radio. You know, an open world game. I had a good time.

Dark Cloud 2

5. Dark Cloud 2

Finished July 2014. Wow this took what felt like an eternity to finish. I picked it up and put it down at least four times over 10 years. Something about the story I thought was really off putting. The dungeon combat was fun, but all the mechanics like city building, weapon leveling, golf, and fishing were not deep enough to be interesting. Not a bad game, but I didn't enjoy it as much as Rogue Galaxy.

Guacamelee!

6. Guacamelee!

Finished July 2014. Fun little diversion. That last boss took a bunch of tries. Nice palate cleanser.

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

7. Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

Finished July 2014. I would love a more developed version of this capitalism/action concept.

Bulletstorm

8. Bulletstorm

Finished August 2014. It would have been been better with a combo or chain kill system, because this game was kinda boring. Pull, kick, pull, kick, shoot.

Lifeless Planet

9. Lifeless Planet

Finished August 2014. Infamously the game Vinny tried to show on UPF that the rest of the crew could not care less about, this was a game I kickstarted years ago. A lot of walking, some fun platforming, and light puzzle mechanics, enhanced by great music and sound design.

Legend of Grimrock

10. Legend of Grimrock

Finished September 2014. I was expecting an RPG with puzzle elements but it was more of a puzzle game with RPG mechanics. Good for a freshman game. I am looking forward to the sequel.
