Year in Finished Games: 2012

What little time I had in 2012, here is how I spent it.

Showing 1-10 of 14 items

Xenogears

1. Xenogears

Finished Jan 2012. A psychotically fever dream of an ending to start the new year. One of the most ambitious RPGs of the PS1 era. The layers of nonsensical plot reveals and the incomplete last disc made the 110 hours spent finishing this an experience I kind of regret.

Chrono Trigger

2. Chrono Trigger

Finished Jan 2012. In anticipation of the Endurance Run, I played through my copy of Chrono Trigger on the SNES. I never played it when it came out. It was never at the rental store where I usually rented Final Fantasy III or Secret of Mana to hope to play through before my save got erased by another renter. I felt somewhat constrained because some party members were better than others and the cave lady was a necessary party member in order to get all the tabs. Also I hate Toriyama's art.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2 - Innocent Sin

3. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2 - Innocent Sin

Finished Jan 2012. I really enjoyed the story. The premise that rumors suddenly started coming true was great. Weird that it immediately led to resurrected Hitler.

Final Fantasy VII

4. Final Fantasy VII

Finished Feb 2012. As a kid I almost never finished games. I would usually share time with my little brother on the gaming console de jour and eventually I would abandon my save and just sit on the couch and watch him play. So technically this is the first time I've finished FF7. And how. I cheesed my way through all the content including the Weapons and I beat Sephiroth in two hits. I kinda like FF7, so there.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

5. Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Finished Mar 2012. I really like this game, because I really like Blade Runner. Great atmosphere, killer music. Seriously make another one, you guys.

Guild Wars

6. Guild Wars

Finished Apr 2012. I got caught up in the hype leading up to Guild Wars 2, so I reactivated my Guild Wars account and purchased the rest of the expansions. I finished through the Prophecies module(?), but I have yet to return to the other 3 expansions, nor do I dare to touch Guild Wars 2. I do plan on playing through Eye of the North. What I have seen of that stuff looks really interesting. I like the world a lot.

To the Moon

7. To the Moon

Finished Jun 2012. Hardly a game. Okay story, magic pixie autistic girlfriend was a little lazy plot device, but whatever, I played through it in an afternoon.

Xenoblade Chronicles

8. Xenoblade Chronicles

Finished Jun 2012. I bought a Wii to play this. I was expecting more, because of how much it was hyped by certain British GB community members. A little too much fan service for my taste and Reyn wouldn't shut the heck up in combat I played it on mute most of the game. The fetch quests just killed the pacing.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne

9. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne

Finished Nov 2012. This took me almost 6 months to finish. Kind of a dick game with endless mazes and cheap deaths. Finished in about 100 hours. I like it a lot. It definitely was worth the time, but I wish it didn't eat up so much of my game playing year.

Yakuza 2

10. Yakuza 2

Finished(ish) Nov 2012. Game freezes going into a cut scene near the end of the game, so I just watched the last two hours on Youtube. I'm counting it anyway. If you ignore all the hostess and majong side quest stuff it's a fun 16 hour brawler with an interesting police procedural/gangster story.
