Because of the random events that occur as you move through the galaxy and the ability to customize your ship this allows players to have their own personal narratives: "I had only my mantis left and I had him repair the door system and then suffocate the two invading slugs!" At first the game feels incredibly unfair but after you've played for a while you start to recognize rare events and capitalize on the game's random design. This game forces you to play very meticulously and think hard about upgrade decisions. Battles can change momentum quickly and you'll need to make use of the pause button frequently. This game's difficulty just makes victory that much sweeter.
