The Second Edition was released as part of the Maruan series, which was a collaboration between several studios in Japan to create a series of indie games. The game features new levels, several bug fixes, and the removal of all Mitchell commercials from the game. Umihara Kawase Shun: Second Edition also features more artwork by series character designer Toshinobu Kondo which is shown after the completion of certain levels and paths. A port of Umihara Kawase Shun: Second Edition was released for the PlayStation Portable in 2008 titled Umihara Kawase Portable and it was also included in a 2009 collection for the Nintendo DS called Umihara Kawase Syun: Second Edition Kanzenban.
