Tranquility Lane is a virtual reality of a stereotypical suburban neighborhood before the Great War. In this neighborhood, there are six houses surrounding a playground that is almost always occupied by a mysterious and very creepy girl named Betty who has a weird obsession with seeing other's misfortune. Tranquility Lane is located in a virtual reality chamber that is located in Vault 112. The simulation was created by a mad man named Doctor Braun who was an old friend of the protagonists father. You go looking for your father who went to to talk to Doctor Braun about the purification project, but find that your father is somewhere in the program and you have to go find him. You end up getting trapped in the computer as well.
