Can Sam Be The Top Dog Once Again? 0

One of the longest running and most popular stealth series is back. Sam Fisher returns after arguably his strongest performance so far in 2010’s Conviction and looks to improve even further on the formula. But can such an incredible game be topped? While not as innovative as it’s predecessor, Blacklist is still a very strong stealth game that earns it’s right to be called a Splinter Cell game in almost all areas. The story sees a group of terrorists known as ‘The Engineers’ start a sequence of at...

Sam Fisher is back and this semi-reboot suggests he's here to stay 0

The faster pace and increased emphasis on fast-shooting over stealth in both Splinter Cell: Conviction and Blacklist make the latest iterations of Splinter Cell almost unrecognisable from Sam Fisher’s debut in 2002. Like the rest of Ubisoft’s seemingly infinite IPs (notably Farcry and Assassin’s Creed), Blacklist has been so far removed from it’s origins that it seems to belong to a completely different franchise. Whilst Blacklist is a very different game to its predecessors, it’s still incredi...

My Splinter Cell: Blacklist Review 0

The Splinter Cell series has always been fun, but unfortunately more fun than good. The stealth game play even has the Metal Gear Solid games paling in comparison, but the stories and characters have always been forgettable as they were wrapped up in mostly political jargon. However Splinter Cell: Convictions and now with Splinter Cell: Blacklist not only does the characters stand out more, but we get a good story as well. A new terrorist organization reveals themselves after destroys an Air For...

Should I Hide the Unconscious Guard or Throw Him Out a Window? 0

This review only covers the single player portion of Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Stabbing necks, hiding bodies, and avoiding security cameras are important skills to learn when becoming a spy, and Sam Fisher has long been known as the master of such skills. Unfortunately, Fisher’s last adventure (Splinter Cell: Conviction) removed some of these skills to make a more streamlined action game for broader audiences. While Convictionwas a well-made game that sold well, fans of Sam Fisher craved a more...

    Surprisingly High Quality 0

I went into this game with relatively low expectations, but it does a magnificent job of building on what was great about Conviction and making it better in pretty much every way. The fact that both my single player and coop progress help towards my same set of upgrades, the grading of your play style between ghost, panther, and assault. Finally I'm as big a Michael Ironside fan as anyone but the new voice actor for Sam Fisher does a really great job here.An easy recommendation to anyone who li...

Blacklist isn't a revolution for the series but a refinement of all that has come before 0

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell series was once the number one choice for stealth aficionados, but with each subsequent success has come a desire to attract new audiences. Splinter Cell: Conviction was the most recent and exceedingly bold attempt to appeal to a more action-oriented crowd, abandoning the carefully structured and methodical pacing of series highlight Chaos Theory, and adopting a frenetic style where bullets reigned over the auspicious use of shadows. With Splinter Cell: Blacklist, newl...

Steath Action is still running strong 0

Some say that the Splinter Cell series has become 'too accessible' - I think this is just code for 'fun'. It's true that this latest game can be played through without tearing your hair out, but this is no bad thing. If you want to go crazy and 100% stealth your way through every level, you can - but detection rarely means death and restating a level. The game is well produced, and I had a great time with it - pick is up on Steam for < £15....

    No Ironside, No Problem. 0

A common problem that afflicts many games these days is that they simply try to do too much, to attract as many possible players as they can. Of all the developers to attempt so, Ubisoft has easily seen a largely negative response, and acceptable but less than expected sales. It's only fitting then, that after almost burying the series with Conviction, Blacklist comes along and does it right.Blacklist feels good. Everything about how it handles is incredibly natural, and having the speed of Convi...
