Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 PLATFORM (PS3, Xbox 360) PUBLISHER (Ubisoft) PRICE $60 ESRB RATING (M for Mature) PLAYERS (1-16 online) Once again Ubisoft has released another title in it's growing list of Tom Clancy games. This one, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, might just be one of the most solid Clancy titles to ever come out. Sure, Splinter Cell was more flashy at the time it can out and the Ghost Recon titles might have gotten a to lead the Clancy games on the new generation consoles. What these titles can't hold a candle to Vegas 2 is in the arena of control. A large part of this already existed in the first Vegas game. The aiming in that game felt smooth as silk, and the multiplayer action was greatly enhanced by the way you gained new weapons, armor, and clothes through gaining points by playing the online portion of the game. Vegas 2 expands this points based system into its offline single player campaign, and this adds a cohesive feeling that will draw many players into the game. Added onto this major improvement is a nifty sprint button. While this might not be a huge evolution, it does speed up the action in Vegas 2. This hikes the intensity levels to 11 and is also extremely useful. The single player story mode is a great deal of fun and the levels are fairly well designed, but the actual story was kind of a bore. The action is more than enough to make up for this, and when played with an online or offline friend this problem is almost totally unnoticeable. Still, I hope the next game will make the story seem a bit more relevant. Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 climbs to the top of the very long, and growing, list of extremely good shooters out now. It might not completely trump Call of Duty 4, but it is a close fight. Since this years Call of Duty is being developed by a different studio that last years amazing experience, Rainbow Six has a good chance of being the best shooter of the year. If you like this, you might also like these. Resistance 2 PLATFORM (PS3) PUBLISHER (SCEA) PRICE $60 ESRB RATING (M for Mature) PLAYERS (1-8, 64 online) THE QUICK AND DIRTY: This game is now Sony's best hope now that Killzone 2 has been pushed back till next year. The first Resistance was a pretty good experience for the launch of the PS3, but they really have to crank it up for the second game if they want to stand out. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars PLATFORM (Xbox 360, PS3) PUBLISHER (Activision) PRICE $60 ESRB RATING (M for Mature) PLAYERS (16) THE QUICK AND DIRTY : The hit PC game comes to the PS3 and Xbox 360, and it brings its huge battlefields and interesting classes over as well. The console version of this game has has very much hype, so it will be interesting to see if people even realize it is out. |
