A French site, P-Nintendo, is under the impression Eiji Aonuma let slip that an unannounced Zelda title is due to be revealed at E3. It's unknown whether he was referring to a remake, a compilation, or simply a totally new game. E3 should explain all.

I wonder if this could be The Legend of Paper Zelda title that's been rumoured of late, Miyamoto-san seems keen to return to 2D Zelda, recently he was quizzed about what he'd like to see remade for the 3DS, to which he replied, "Link to the Past". I would personally love that, it would be great to see some of the games sprite-work displayed in 3D, along with that iconic over-world map.

Holy buttfuck crap yes. Sure it's another Zelda remake, but another damn good one, and one that would definitely translate really well into 3D.

Now here come all the people to complain about another Zelda game.

Yeah, a 3D version of A Link To The Past with polygonal houses and bushes ect (Like the modern Pokémon games).

That could be cool. But it would still just be an old Zelda game rehashed. I think Nintendo should quit rehashing their franchises.

They were successful making a billion party games and mascot sports games but that's not how I wish Nintendo spent their resources. There's no reason why they should stop I just would like them too.

Make a proper sequel to Wind Waker and I will instantly forgive Nintendo for the mediocrity that has plagued Zelda since 2006.

So glad my gaming youth was spent on computers. I never have to worry about paying to play the same game over, and over, and over again.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3DS Zelda title announced at E3.  3DS being one of the things they'll be placing the biggest emphasis on, another game to add to the list of upcoming titles would be nice.

It's the 25 anniversary of the franchise, E3 will be rich with Zelda.

I think it's something new, Ocarina 3D lessens the possibility of it being a remake of some sort. I hope that LttP game comes alter though. I'd love to see a new Wind Waker styled game on the new console, that's my biggest wish for the franchise right now.

Anyway, besides this, I can't wait to see more on Skyward Sword, we know so very little about that game, so I expect to be surprised by what I see. I hope these rumours of airborne combat are true. I've always wanted to see Epona take to the skies like Pegasus.

Where did this rumour originate? Would it be a quirky JRPG like the Paper Mario games? Because that could be kind of awesome.

I'm gonna get reamed for this, but isn't the layout, weapons and story in LttP extremely similar to OoT, besides for the light and dark worlds? I know all Zelda games share similarities just ilke all Final Fantasy games do, but I never played LttP because it seemed too similar to OoT. Wouldn't that not be a good move on Nintendo's part to remake this, or will naive kids and hardcore Zelda fans not care?

Well assuming they stick with top-down gameplay, I would say that would make it different enough.

It's either this or a proper Zelda 3DS game. They're sure as fuck not going the Final Fantasy XIII/XIV route and announcing a Zelda MMO before Skyward Sword's release.

This sounds very likely. I wonder what happened to those Capcom guys who made all the GameBoy Zeldas. I know that particular studio doesn't exist anymore, but it would be cool if they could get some of the guys who made those.

I think you just gave them an idea. After all, Majora's Mask proved that they already have quite a few races for a decent base.

    How?
It's a Nintendo device, so it will get at least one Zelda game sooner or later. And it's not doing as well as it should because of an incredibly poor software library, so they'll want to announce as many new, big games as possible for it this E3. A new Mario and a new Zelda would certainly boost interest and sales.

If we're talking about handhelds I can agree with you. But to see a series that has remained roughly along the same playbook since it's inception across an ever evolving line of consoles, I'm not necessarily sure I agree with you. If I was told I could only play a Nintendo console for the rest of my life I would love the Zelda series, but standards are so much higher, in my opinion, for a supposedly AAA role playing/action adventure game series on other consoles. I would just never choose to play a Zelda game if presented with a choice of another supposedly top-quality game of its genre(s).
In some ways I sort of agree with you. The series has been in a bit of a rut for the past few years, but I think each Zelda game still has a unique and interesting feel to it that very few other games have even attempted to replicate.

But there are practically no other games like Zelda, and the ones that do exist -- like Darksiders -- are inferior.

@Video_Game_King: I don't mean the graphics. They'll almost certainly use cel-shaded graphics and the system's shitty 3D effects. I just mean it'll probably be played on a 2D plane, like all previous handheld Zelda games.

That makes more sense, although I'd like to see how that would use the 3Dish (the 3DS does the opposite of popping out) aspects for its gameplay. I'm guessing it would be aiming and graphical effects.
