Answering fan questions on the subject, Howard said that there are "no current plans" for a fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series.
The Elder Scrolls
The Elder Scrolls is a long-running franchise of role-playing games made by Bethesda Softworks. The series is known for offering much freedom to the player and many choices of how to play.
Bethesda have 'no plans' for more Elder Scrolls games
What happened to all that stuff in 2008 about Bethesda saying that they saw Elder Scrolls V coming out some time in 2010? :(
OH man that sucks poop, but I'm sure eventually they'll be like you know what lets make another elder scrolls!!!
I doubt it's the end of elder scrolls, maybe there won't be one for a few years .... hmm i don't know, I did love the games though.
Good news, in my opinion. Because, come on, we all know TESV would have been Oblivion 2. I would like to see them continue expanding the lore through books and on their forums.
well what the hell else do they do then
they are not even the ones making fallout new Vegas that's the alpha protocol guys
There isn't a chance in Hell they're not making another TES game.
Bethesda shipped 1.7 million copies of TESIV (when it was only available on the 360 and PC) from Mar 20th 2006 (its release date) to Apr 10th 2006. By early 2007 it had sold over 3 million copies. Those are insane numbers.
TES is Bethesda's keystone franchise, without the reliable money it generates they could hardly fund additional projects or expand their development teams.
Maybe he's implying that there won't be a TES V anytime soon, meaning that IV's sequel won't be on any of the current generation platforms (and that wouldn't be too hard to imagine, that's how all of the previous entries have worked as well.) They're not anymore likely to stop making TES games than McDonald's is likely to stop selling burgers.
Then what is Todd Howard's team working on? Fallout: New Vegas is being made by Obsidian, and it's not like Bethesda has any other significant IPs.
Obsidian is handling the next fallout" @HandsomeDead: They outsourced Fallout to Bioware I believe "
They pretty much said that the next one was an MMO, which makes perfect sense.. Who knows what will happen after that. I would play the MMO if it were anything like morrowind and less like Oblivion, Bethesda has my love whatever they decide to do.
You misquoted the guy. They have not plans for THE ELDER SCROLLS 5. Could be a Morrowind/Oblivion sequal or an MMO.

I don't want to say Oblivion was "dumbed down" but they definitely simplified it massively to appeal to a wider audiance, and it lost a lot of what made the past Elder Scrolls games so great.
But I'm not overly disappointed that they aren't working on a 5th game, Oblivion did end the series quite nicely, and although they could obviously go back and revisit the universe, I'd prefer to see them working on something else. Why is Halo the only series that gets bashed when it's announced they're releasing an expansion for one of the most popular games of all time, yet a 5th Elder Scrolls game, not counting spin-offs and expansions is what everyone wants?
I say give the series a rest.

That makes no sense. I sequel to Morrowind or Oblivion would be the Elder Scrolls 5, even if they decided to go back and set the game in Vvardenfell again, it would still be the 5th game. Are you suggesting they make an Elder Scrolls V: Morrowind II?
And an high fantasy MMO is the last thing we need, even set in the Elder Scrolls universe, is it really necessary? The Elder Scrolls was always supposed to be a single player experience, which is why they refused to include any form of multiplayer/co-op in Morrowind and Oblivion.. I have a hard time believing they'd go against everything the series was supposed to stand for, for the sake of making a few quick bucks.
