    The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall

Game » consists of 3 releases. Released Aug 30, 1996

The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall from Bethesda Softworks is an enormous RPG and sequel to The Elder Scrolls: Arena. It includes a massive gameworld and pioneering freeform play. It was well received for these factors, but was criticised for a number of crippling bugs.

    Hey y'all,

After watching the Daggerfall Random PC Game video, I'm sure a lot of people will want to try out the game for themselves. Bethesda offer the game completely for free at http://www.elderscrolls.com/daggerfall/, but you probably already know that. It's easy enough to start up, but if you're running on a modern OS and your experience was anything like mine, you'll notice that the game is missing sound effects or music, skips cinematics, and generally runs a little sluggish. I'm sure somebody a little more patient and experienced than myself with DosBOX could tweak all the settings to get it running perfectly, but why bother?

Praise Akatosh, this site is amazing! They've packaged Daggerfall along with a few mods and unofficial user-made patches into a nice and tidy, Windows 7 ready setup file. For the purists, all that extra stuff is optional. The key here is just that it works flawlessly on Windows 7. The website's completely in French, but it's fairly easy to get around regardless of your knowledge of the language (and a simple Google translate will definitely get you by).

Here's the direct download if you're sold already and want to skip the page entirely:

Also, note that they did this for Arena as well if you want to check that out too!

    Enjoy!

Dude. Thank you. I played Daggerfall religiously in 1996-1998.

Vinny and Dave's forays into the game really got me wanting to play it again.

Not exactly related but here's something of interest. Some dude is writing up a new engine that more or less makes old games like Daggerfall run on PCs whilst making them look prettier. It's in Alpha at the moment but regardless, it's interesting to look at if you enjoy this kind of stuff.

Huh? System Shock 2 has tons of modernising mods as does System Shock.

System Shock 2 is free, if that's what oyu're referring to. I don't know about Windows 7, but I easily got it running on XP a few years back.

This should be helpful, since my prior DosBox setup for Daggefall doesn't seem to like my new Windows 7 Laptop.

Are there setup files like this for other DOS games like Blood and Star Wars: Dark Forces?

You can buy BLOOD from GOG.com and run it on modern systems. SW: DF is shadier, I think they had it on Steam but with their old stuff you never know if they run well or not.
