Do we really need another Soul Calibur game?

Same could have been said of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat before they came out.

At least I don't have to buy SCIV now. I was seriously thinking about it, and that would have been a really weird purchase.

Hey, I just thought of something: if the last few years have been a microcosm of the 90's golden age of fighters, will the genre just peter out again shortly after Soul Calibur comes out?

They should just pretty up SC2 and release that.

The last two Soulcalibur games were dreadful.

SC4 was OK. Dunno if we need a new one though.

I hope they pull a SC2 with this and make a really fun game. Also, I think wacky console exclusive characters should return. I thought Spawn on the Xbox was a blast to play as.

Couldn't care less.  The last 2 SC games has been complete trash...SC2 was the series' last point of greatness.  They could do something nice this time, but why expect it now.

I like the Soul Calibur games... they can be fun. 

" That time frame would seem to be backed up by this Namco Bandai teaser site, which is currently counting down to May 11th for "The Beginning of a New Chapter" of something. After repeatedly checking my math, i can confirm that May 11th is, in fact, in mid-May, so this all seems to add up. "

Hm... I'm not sure about this. While recent fighting success stories like SF and MK would lead one to believe the same could happen with Soul Caliber, you should remember that those two franchises went back to a retro vibe. With Mortal Kombat specifically, they took the biggest leap backwards from 3D fighting back to its 2D roots. Soul Caliber however, has largely been the same since its incarnation.

I'm curious to see how much boob physics have improved over the years. It's been a long time since I have seen some "good" boob jiggle in games.

Soul Calibur, sadly, is getting stale because none of the sequels brought anything new to the table in terms of gameplay.

I could be down for some pun based blackguards with giant evil swords.

Odd as it is to say, but a new Soul Calibur game will be stepping into an increasingly crowded, revitalized market.
Which audience will Namco have in their sights? Will they target hardcore fighting fans? They'll have to fight off comparisons to the sublime Super Street Fighter IV and its upcoming Arcade Edition. Will they target arcade fighter fans? The likes of Mortal Kombat and Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 stand in the way.

Maybe Namco will go after the RealDoll enthusiast market by expanding on Soul Calibur 4's rather, uh, jiggly female cast. I doubt Dead or Alive will let that crown sit on Soul Calibur's head for long, though!

I actually rather enjoyed SC4, so I'm all down for another SC. Hopefully they mix up the formula somewhat, though, to prevent it from feeling too stale.

Not interested unless the reign in the female character design, and for the love of god get the creepy anime-dress-up-doll character creation system out of it.

I just hope for this one it is toned down a little in terms of character models because soul calibur 4 looked ridiculous, also they need to forget all of this star wars nonsense. I always have a spot in my heart for SC because SC2 was so much hype.
