Overview
Sludge Life is a first-person graffiti platformer game developed by Terri Vellmann and Doseone and published by Devolver Digital. It was released May 28, 2020 for free on the Epic Games Store for PC. A Nintendo Switch port is planned for release in 2020.
Taking place on small, man-made island built over an endless expanse of 'sludge', Sludge Life has the player filling the shoes of a graffiti writer known as 'Ghost' navigating its world in order to complete 100 tags.
Gameplay
The gameplay of Sludge Life is largely that of a non-linear 3D platformer open world. All 100 of the tags the player can find and engage with are pre-determined artwork that fit their location. The challenge is in figuring out how to get to specific areas in order to engage in the tag. The player is able to reach new areas after acquiring certain items. There is also a "Rep" system that allows the player to complete combo tags with the NPC taggers.
The game also features a virtual desktop that serves as its pause screen. Multiple apps can be added to the desktop, including minigames and tools, that are found throughout the world.
