Quick Look: Skylanders SuperChargers

I haven't been following any of these games. Have they continued to put out the swapforce type dudes? Or is it just a set with a gimmick each year, and then they stop using those features.

And here I thought I was too early for new quick looks.

@mithhunter55: mostly each years gimmick is once and done as the main deal, but this year your dude can also have a vehicle and I believe the blank plastic capture things are here as well.

I will never buy a game toy, but I enjoy watching grown ass men playing with them.

They stole the gameplay from mario 3d world and ratchet & clank, the HUD from kingdom hearts and graphics from fable and put it in the fox engine. THIEVES!

@tgjessieThis is the fifth Skylanders game, and there are three Disney Infinity games that use the same mechanic. Then there's the whole Amiibo thing. I guess you just missed it all somehow.

Alright, the more Skylanders videos the better.

The "toys to life" genre of video games has been going on for quite some time now. The first Skylanders game was probably the pioneer, and now you have Disney Infinity, that Lego game and Amiibos.

Zim's voice actor is really good, but it's pretty strange seeing him just recycle that voice instead of coming up with a new one. *shrug*

Alright then. How is this genre generally looked upon? This in particular seems... well, as they say, devious.

Man, kids are lucky these days! Remember the kid's games we grew up with?

Every time a new one of these comes out, I think "Oh I should check these games out, they seem okay", and proceed to find the current release is way too expensive for "checking out", last year's release is still full price, and the release(s) before that (if they exist) are totally sold out.

So basically I will never play one of these games (but I still bought a Stitch figure because it looked neat, so I'm part of the problem anyway).

I collect Disney Infinity figures like a drug addict, but when I go into the aisle and see the Skylanders section it looks so confusing...there are big ones and then tiny ones and then cars and little small item looking things. I guess I would have to be invested in Skylanders to know what that's all about

For what it's worth you just new a Land, Sea, and Air vehicle to 100% this game, no specific elements required. It's still a buy-in but definitely less than Trap Team which needed specific versions of Skylansers of specific elements. Hearing that this is at least better than TT sounds good to me, I thought it was ok (though it was my first one of these)

I like that you can still use the figures without opening the box. Activision taking care of the high value of "used" Skylanders!

If there were a digital version of this on PC, I'd buy everything they sold.

Fun fact: Toy stores here in the Netherlands have entire walls full of Skylanders stuff while the Amiibo section consists of only one stand that has 5 standard Amiibo.

My daughter and I went through a several hundred dollar Skylanders era, and these games are actually pretty ok. They completely ruined Stealth Elf though.

So when is the Skylanders MOBA coming out then?

I can't unhear Zim's voice. It's just too...Zim.

Good ole Skylanders Quicklook to remind me to not care when Jeff hates on a game I like, because at least I never spent a thousand bucks or whatever on Skylanders :D

Hey these started to look alright graphically at some point I see.

Just watching these videos makes my wallet flinch. My family was lucky that ways to nickel and dime gamers back in the early 1990s were a tad limited. 18 water skylanders, 18 fire skylanders, this and that... each figure costing probably $12.99 minimum according to Amazon. Oh, and the game itself is $75.00 bucks. $100 if you want the Dark Skylanders edition. Oh, and we also now have vehicle figurines to buy too that cost $14.99... FOR ONE VEHICLE SKIN in a videogame. ONE. :-/

Ugh, it honestly disgusts me. What a way to fleece parents whose munchkins won't have any idea how exploitative this business model is. It's like a DOTA2-level of BS directed at the pre-pubescent.

That screencap reminds me that I like seeing them show off the figures in these sorts of games and that they didn't do that for Disney Infinity 3.0.
