Quick Look: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

I didn't buy a Wii U, and the Switch is my first Nintendo console (always owned PlayStations). I am really enjoying the game, played it with a coworker over lunch today.

I still think Crash Team Racing is better though.

Tiny Correction (5:17): Rosalina was also in Super Mario 3D World as an unlockable character, not just Galaxy 1 and 2.

PS: Proud that Vinny is eager to catch up on Mario lore.

Sonic and Sega Transformed is an amazing cart game, sometimes feels fairer than Mario Kart.

That said, this game looks stunning in portable mode.

I've been enjoying it, but Sonic had a much better single player component, I think.

Feels a bit disingenuous to dunk on a game for only being 'successful by WiiU standards' and something hardly anyone bought or played when it... sold 8 million copies and still has a thriving multiplayer scene.

That's better than most 'successful' three year old games, I'd say.

I'm always glad to see this game get some recognition.

And, yes, I know the the last Mario Kart game to come out did so before Transformed.

Why does selecting Online Play drop you into an ongoing race as a spectator? And a race that was only on the first lap?

Also, while King Boo is all-right, the roster is a little thin. Babies, metal and re-skinned versions of the same characters? There's so much more they could have added.

I too would put money in a Bowser Alex Jones/Info Wars/food review show. Only if Bowser will also tear his shirt off every episode and also lose his kid in a court case due to being unstable.

The actual worst power-up is the Lightning, even if you're in first place with a Horn, if someone alse gets a Lightning, you're fucked. Doubly so if you're currently flying over a pit.

EDIT: also I don't see the value of comparing Mario Kart and Sonic Racing when neither stacks up to Blur.

For the record, Vinny, glider and underwater transformation mechanics debuted in Mario Kart 7, which came out before Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, so SASRT wasn't the original transforming game. :p

Man, I am just happy they fixed battle mode into something resembling that of the previous games. Also dig the system link-esque feature. I might pick this up down the line

@vinny Rosalina isn't a princess. She's the godmother of all Lumas (the star dudes from Galaxy), which makes her the caretaker of the universe because Lumas can become all sorts of celestial bodies. Her backstory is detailed in the first Galaxy game in a delightful story book.

Her backstory is also why Baby Rosalina cheeses me. We know what she was like as a child. Her baby form wearing the same clothes as her adult version makes no sense.

This Quick Look got me to reinstall Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed.

MK8 is like a light version of Sonic ASRTransformed, which is the best kart racer of all time.

Sonic Racing Transformed is why I barely touched Mario Kart on Wii U and am not picking this version up. It's just better.

I like the Sonic kart game just fine but couldn't get anyone else to play. I can't keep 'em away from Mario Kart. Alcohol and Mario Kart make weekends...well I was going to say "fun" but "fun until the neighbors call the fuzz" would be more accurate.

I wonder if any of the GB crew has actually gone back and played Super Mario Kart...it plays pretty awful in comparison to any other Mario kart.

Besides, the game has about thirty playable characters and only seven of them are Sonic characters.

I want a new Sonic Racing game, but with all the Yakuza characters added and Sonic characters removed. I think that'd make a great Sonic Racing game.

And I know Kaz would be into it after what happened in Yakuza 5.
