Quick Look: Dead Rising 2: Off the Record

I liked Dead Rising 2 and this game is stupid.

Truth be told, he didn't really get that hands-on with Dead Rising 2. He was in a more 'creative consultant' kind of position.

How Brad can talk so seriously with West dressed that way... It's beyond my understanding.

I don't know where the multiple restart statements come from. I only had to restart Dead Rising 1 once (died on a boss an hour in) and I never restarted Dead Rising 2 (and I only failed 2 side missions; did all the rest). I had to do multiple playthroughs for achievements, but that's nothing surprising or out of the ordinary.

Concerning DR2: Off The Record, I'll pass. It is way too similar to vanilla DR2. If I do buy it, it will only be at a bargain price.

EDIT: Odd choice showing so little of the sandbox mode and new stuff. Barely showed off the new dialogue/cutscenes, too. I rather on-camera content show me the game rather than the hosts describing it.

The accent of every Irish character in every video-game ever has been terrible. I have to admit that hearing Americans complain about much the same issue does give me a bit of a case of Schadenfreude.

Frank is a legend.

Dead rising is one of the only games that Achievements really improved for me. I loved both games and I played through both a bunch of times trying to do different things each time. For $40 and frank west I'll pick this one up too. I cant quite place my finger on why I love these games so much, it becomes like some weird Groundhog day after a while where I leave the safe-house and know where and when every encounter is going to happen. I think it's similar to a speed run mentality.

It's been ages since I played Dead Rising 2 so I definitely wouldn't mind playing some more Dead Rising.

Great commentary guys! I found this video deeply disturbing. I love the first 2 games but this could not look more derivative of DR2. I thought I would at least rent this game but after seeing his video I'm definitely going to avoid it. That new environment actually looks pretty dope but it's just not enough. Thank you for making these quick looks a reality so I can make smarter purchasing decisions.

I've played all four of the previous Dead Rising games. I understand why people who don't like the series have problems with it, but I love it. The clock, the saving, etc. are things that do not bother me at all. I like the challenge of managing all of that. That said, I have no desire to pick this game up. Had this been a DLC expansion for $10 or $15 I'd definitely get it, but $40? Nope.

I'm getting pretty sick of Capcom's re-release strategy. It's great for people who have a small interest in their franchises and wait a year until a better version is released. Eventually it may bite them in the ass when enough people start waiting for the inevitable second version of a game and the first one doesn't sell.

It's a shame this Quick Look never happened it would have been really good.

Games with time limits rub everyone the wrong way.

Edit: Just skip ahead to 17:00 when brad finally changes out of that eye sore of an outfit. Sorry GB guys but it made the first half of the quick look unwatchable.

The weirdest thing about Frank West to me is that somewhere between Dead Rising 1 and Case West he turned into current era Dan Aykroyd.

i actually liked DR2 on the PC, but i dont see how i can ever justify getting this unless its on a cheap steam sale... im baffled to what the point of this game is. Was Frank in umvc3 not enough to keep the character "around" until a DR3 or something?

For someone that usually defends Capcom's rehashing of games, i just cant do it here.

I'm still strangely curious about this even though I know I shouldn't be. I can see myself getting this when it's under $20 on Steam.

Indeed, I'm glad someone gets it. But most gamers these days want to be spoon-fed everything and want a check point every 10 seconds. Sucks for them though, as they never experience any actual games, instead they play interactive movies that require no thought or planning or challenge.

I actually read somewhere that Capcom Vancouver was contractually obligated to do a "Director's Cut" when they signed on to do Dead Rising 2, and this is it.

I'm with Jeff. Dead Rising is a 'one and done' kind of game. You play it once, there's no reason to play it a second time.

Except Spider Man, all of those games already came out, kinda. So, nothing really new there. And Spider-Man is inherently boring.

I still think there's a misconception about how Dead Rising is "supposed" to be played. You don't have to restart the game every time. You can keep going, even after you fail the story missions. Survivors and psychopaths still appear after failing the story, so you can keep doing other things to level up instead of just starting over every time.

Then again, since this is basically just Dead Rising 2 again, I'm sure many people have exhausted all the fun little things to farm PP in the game, so it's probably less interesting.

If you're into Achievements, replaying the game is a must.

I would totally buy this if Tobias Funke was the playable character.
