Quick Look: Outer Wilds

I am so in love with this game.

This is a very good game.

Between this and Void Bastards Gamepass has given me far too much as summer courses start! I'm afraid of what else they'll add at E3. This game is so incredibly good once you learn what it is. If you can please go in as blind as possible, so many incredible moments await.

This might be my game of the year. I beat it yesterday, and it still lingers in my mind.

This game is really great. You can tell a lot of love and care went into making it.

I actually gasped out loud with joy several times watching this video. I need to play this.

This game is leaps and bounds GOTY for me this far. Incredible story in an incredible universe. And it's all systems driven too, which makes solving puzzles so beautifully logical.

Damn, this thing finally came out? I remember seeing footage of a very beta build back in ~2013

Played this for a few hours. I love the vibes, the mystery but sadly for me, it's just too aimless. And I'm a sucker for voice acting. Just reading the lines is very non interesting to me. :( I need a little more of a of a stronger hook to propel me though the story.

Dear god the first time I died in a cave to the sand it was after midnight playing in a darkened room. That kind of shit STAYS with you.

Where the Sun Explodes, first time I saw and heard that was so amazing. I just saw this giant blue "ball" of light, and I ran to dicover what it was, when I realised it just got bigger and bigger, oh and that music playing sooo good :)

Play this game, y'all. I haven't even beat it yet but it's definitely one of my favorite video game experiences ever. There's so much creativity and intelligence poured into every ounce of the game, it's really special.

My dream of working on something the GB crew does a quicklook of is finally realized! This is a trip!

They mention Super Mario Galaxy and it made me wonder if Mario remembers all the times he died.

I've put about 7 or 8 hours into this so far, and it's really something special. I can already tell this game is going to stick with me for years. Even after I beat it, I'll probably go back from time to time and just fly around, because the environments are so creative and cool.

This is also on Xbox game pass, Not sure why they wouldn't mention that.

A lot of Xbox owners also probably have it for free. It was a reward for watching E3 on mixer last year..

I don’t really like this game and I’m bummed about it. I feel completely overwhelmed by the amount of stuff and the fact that none of it is really explained. There’s not a slow drip of new concepts so much as a massive dump all at once, and I feel like I keep going places, getting confused about what I’m supposed to do there, and then just leaving to do something else. I feel more confused than impressed, and the lack of voice acting makes the whole thing feel weirdly lifeless to me.

And on the other side of the coin all of what you mention makes me love it more. Aside from the voice acting, I'm indifferent there. The sense of exploration, the freeform narrative that doesn't hold your hand. The esoteric lore that pieces together the more you play.

No one thing is made for everyone, and I'm sad to hear that doesn't strike the right chords for you. Though I did feel similar in the first couple hours. You end up extrapolating a story of the race that came before, and it coheres the more you explore.

It's something I rarely see in games. In the history of games there's very few examples of similar experiences.

So I'm curious(if you played them) if you enjoyed The Witness, the STALKER series, kerbal, dark souls? If not what games do you find yourself typically enjoying? Sorry for the long message. This game has me thinking about a LOT of things. :)

This game is very interesting. It combines the best of "walking simulators" and adventure games while adding some engaging space physics. Even though the number of planets isn't so large, it immediately gives a sense of mystery and exploration.

@tikicobra: I feel like the rumor system helps you a lot in terms of goals and explaining stuff you might not have extrapolated from reading the texts you find.

This game is one of the best I have played in a long time. My GoTY last year was Obra Dinn and the year before that was Breath of the Wild. This feels like the best parts of both of those games.

The exploration and sense of wonder you get with each discovery is unparalleled. I did nothing but play this game for the past three days, even got all the achievements which I haven’t done for a game since the Mass Effect trilogy.

I usually hate open ended games where you are meant to wander but this one hooked me. I only ever got stuck once or twice for any length of time the whole game. If you spend enough time on each world you begin to understand the rules in a way that feels second nature.

I can not recommend this enough, such a unique experience.

This game was potentially my game of the year and then what should have been the last hour turned into 3 or 4 and it ruined the game for me.

The time mechanic was so good until I only had a few things to do and all of them were time sensitive. Waiting for 10 mins to get an opportunity to solve something stops being fun real quick. Combined with a few late game crashes and holy shit was I looking forward to putting this game behind me.

ooof I buy this on Oculus Quest in a heartbeat, but I'll be playing it regardless.

@crazybagman: The Souls games are some of my favorites of all time. I’m a big fan of the vague, esoteric style of storytelling. That’s not my problem with this game so much as the moment-to-moment gameplay. I don’t think flying the ship or moving around on foot feels good at all, and I feel like after about four or five hours I’ve accomplished nothing. All I’ve done is read a bunch of text, but I don’t know to what end. I haven’t acquired any items or done anything that feels like actual progress.

Is this game as good as The Dig? That is the best space adventure game, maybe this isn';t an adventure game but it basically seems like The Dig but on a wider scale. Am I wrong? Because The Dig is the best piece of science fiction in video game form.

Oh my god how awesome is this? And how awesome is Vinny? I love how he explained this and showed it, I’m totally intrigued. All those mechanics, the amount of detail and the styyyyyle. Love this! And it’s on Gamepass, that’s pretty sweet.

@rosur: Id say at least 15h, but it can vary wildy because it doesnt really hold your hand, sorta off like the Obra Dinn.

Best part of this Quick Look: Abby reacting to these set pieces the exact same way I do while watching. Definitely interested in this game after this though I am somewhat annoyed that I have to play it on PC since I don't have an XONE. It's funny how blessed the PS4 has been with exclusives but then stuff like this and Void Bastards come out elsewhere and leave me in the lurch. Thanks for the great video!
