I actually am really starting to hope Drew makes it through this entire game without remembering to buy anything.

Holy shit, I forgot the kid was Guyanese. Former british guyana, the dialect is a mix between carribean and British english.

Man sod those gorrila things, worst enemy of that game in my opinion.

Hoooly shit that Guyanese accent is horrible. Like, he uses some of the words, but it sounds like a foreigner speaking the words instead of a native speaker, it sounds so bad, hahaahahaha

I never really gave it much thought back when I played this game myself, but I'm having a really hard time figuring out how much of the sombrero scene is an intentional goof and how much of it is just unintentional nonsense.

I'm pretty sure Guyana isn't actually a hispanic country, and I think even though it's still Latin-American there are hardly any native Spanish speakers?

So is the goof that Raiden doesn't understand that Guyana isn't Mexico? Or is it that he just chose a ridiculous costume? The two random hispanic dudes happening to be the only people he comes across while in his disguise make me feel like that particular scene was written by someone who either didn't know where Guyana is, or they wrote it completely out of context and added it in anyway.

@mvhvtmv: Chapter 2 is in Guadalajara in Mexico, George is just Guyanese.

I know there's a codex conversation where they point out just how ridiculous Raiden's costume is, but I don't remember if they pointed out the geography. Seems like the kind of thing they'd have a two minute monologue about.

It's always hard to say if Metal Gear is being deliberate or not. The third game takes place in the Rainforests of Russia, after all.

Do they eventually figure out that they have health items which, if equipped, save you from dying, just like the rations in Metal Gear?

And do they eventually figure out what actually recharges your electrolytes (Blade Juice, as I call it), and when you can go into Blade Mode?

@melodiousj: Yeah, I was definitely mistaken about it taken place in Guyana. But, the 'Rainforests of Russia' deal from MGS3 actually makes a lot more sense than it sounds. I think the idea is that MGS3 takes place somewhere near the southern borders of the former Soviet Union, but not necessarily within Russia, so an ex-Soviet Central Asian country like Kyrgyzstan fits pretty well.

Someone likely already clarified this, but I believe the little boy in the sewer with the weird accent is a South African dialect, the kind used in many of the ghettos there... and, of course, by everyone's favorite crazy zef duo, Die Antwoord!

I could definitely be wrong about this particular kid, but also most Merc organizations are based in South Africa as well - and Metal Gear, as well as Call of Duty, seem to know this and use it in their stories.

So, quick suggestion, like Drew did, you may want to try normal or easy on this one - I don't think the game lets you change it mid-game, so it was something where hard felt find for a lot of the game, and then I was screwed once I hit a later boss - there are some (at least one) boss fights later in the game that are insanely hard (unless there was a trick I was missing for the 25-40 tries I gave it - the rest of the game was rather easy before that)... and I say this as a very avid Souls series veteran, with no trouble beating any parts of those games.

It wasn't that I wasn't willing to keep trying, so much as it was frustrating in the worst way because I never knew what I was doing wrong, so that I could try to improve (really frustrating, actually, and I ended up just not finishing it). Maybe the auto-parry option would have done it for me as well, I can't remember if I tried it or knew of it.

Now that we have this let's play, I can finally take it off my list to finish one day (but really didn't want to finish it, except to see the story, I was fed up with that fight)!

That accent is... questionable to say the least. Total breach of the Geneva Conventions this episode, and not just slaughtering children to turn into cyborgs.
