The ability to redeem My Nintendo points for games and discounts is not a new thing. It's been a thing for the 3DS and Wii U for a few years now. I started earning points in March 2016, and redeemed some of the platinum points for a 20% discount on Captain Toads Treasure Tracker that summer.

The new thing is that it's about to be implemented for the Switch.

Man people sure go through hassles to run their old super nintendo games. It has to be more nostalgic than the enjoyment you will have for playing those old games.

As for Nintendo instead of selling card board boxes, they should revisit the old emulation models they had in a previous generation. It would solve a lot of problems when people want to revisit old games. But then again when I want to play PS2 games, I usually just boot my old console, it still works perfectly to this day

I don't get why EVERYONE seems to keep going to expeditions to farm monsters. Like EVERYONE that reviews games. It's absolutely ridiculous. There's a whole class of quests called investigations that give you bonus loot. Sure it's slightly harder to see than the other quests, but they're listed right there when you first open the quest board menu, and they explain that they're basically a collection of quests meant for farming. They're pretty goddam clear that expeditions are meant for you to run around the map collecting environmental materials or just taking in the scenery. They tell you (and you've experienced) that monsters despawn. WHY ARE YOU FARMING MONSTERS IN EXPEDITIONS?!

Also inviting people to your gathering hall using the PSN utilities will make it so that you can search for your friends' quests by "searching within the gathering hall." No need for dialing down the search criteria.

I start to think that this guy is very attached to his Donkey Kong fame and doesn't cope well with this situation.

I bet his buddy D.Ryckert would be able to get to the heart of this defamation case and find the missing tape.

When you started talking about Jon Arbuckle going insane, it made me think of Garfield Minus Garfield (http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/) which is a series of Garfield comics with all characters removed except Jon. It takes the original comic strip and makes it into this bizarre existential look ant the angst and loneliness of one man at the end of his rope. It’s an inspired idea, one which actually ended up getting the support of Jim Davis himself.

Xbox throttles if you're running a game in the background while downloading

I feel like that wide camera got moved at some point and now there is a ton of extra headroom on it. I was thinking it was to line up the cuts to keep the heads on the same eyeline/level but that doesn't hold up. I could be totally crazy though.

I hope these guys continue to stick with Monster Hunter. Brad thinking high rank is more of the same couldn't be further off. By the end of low rank you've one seen just a bit over half of the 30+ monsters in game.

Also investigations will mix up the conditions and monsters enough to keep the game interesting. Expeditions are for gathering mats only.

Also the amount of frustration around the online system isn't as bad or confusing as everyone keeps saying. You do not need to use SOS to invite people to your game they can wait in town at the message board until you see the cutscene and join from there. Only twice is the cutscene more then 5min into a quest so unless people are very impatient it's pretty easy to work around.

Every time they talk about Billy Mitchell, I think they are talking about Billy Mays at first and I get confused.

@rave: I jumped online with a friend the other night and we expected it to be a nightmare to get in a game together based on everything people have been saying online. "Twenty minutes" and "couldn't figure out".

I invited him to a game, he posted a quest, I went to join quest, we're now in a quest together. Simple. There's a lot of making mountains out of molehills going on.

When playing Legend of Mana I listened to Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park as my soundtrack. Mana had an amazing soundtrack already but Hybrid Theory was there and I loved it so that replaced the soundtrack. I will always remember the snowy area with the bone dragon things I think? while listening to A Place for My Head.

@jesus_phish: I mean people still complain they absolutely cannot find games on the XB1 dashboard so you know, mileage will vary I guess. After Dark Souls you’d think people would be a little more tolerant about weird multiplayer.

@jeff@brad@unastrike After listening to you guys talk about dark John Arbuckle / Garfield, I want to recommend that you go and watch the fairly recent film "The Voices" as soon as possible and read as little as you can about it before you do. All I will tell you is that it's basically the REAL Garfield movie we always imagined - even has the talking jerk orange cat and a dumb dog.

The retron, super nt, and similar devices all require you to own the cartridge to be able to play the game, but are there any similar boxes, besides a pc, that let you play the game directly off of them?

I think new Monster Hunter players gravitate towards the expeditions because they are afraid of the 50 minute timer and want to freely be able to kill what's available on any given map without the stress. The timer is such a weird thing. It frustrates (and even scares away) newer players, but is literally irrelevant to veterans of the series.

And the "x monster is leaving the locale" has been a thing since MH4 (maybe older?) so it's a holdover from that. Which makes monster farming in expeditions a really bad way to go. Investigations, and I can see why this is confusing, are a lot better for farming materials since you get extra chances at loot.

Why wouldn't it be?

I feel like the Billy Mitchell news segment would make one of the finest animated GB thingies in history.

They also repeatedly mention that they're getting close to running out of time and that hunts take 40+ minutes. Which has me a little worried that they're not understanding key combat features or something; fights are supposed to last between 5-20 minutes depending on how familiar you are with the monster.

It'd be a bummer if Jeff didn't know about Demon/Archdemon mode for his DBs, how to use flash bombs to knock flying monsters out of the air, or something similar.

The Monster Hunter World talk on the podcasts have kinda been a bummer. At times it's like I can just feel the dislike everyone but Dan & Jason have for it.

But to each their own. Some people think Monster Hunter World is great. And others give their game of year to PUBG.

Stop hunting monsters in expeditions. Just do investigations.

Do people play Amiga for its arcade ports like Street Fighter? I've always thought of it as having a cool library of its own original games. Plenty were then ported to other systems but I'm not sure they all improved much in the process, so it's still a good place to play them.

@epicp0tato: uhh that’s not what I meant. Shitty UI is what it is, I simply meant that after the success of some games that have esoteric multiplayer mechanics people wouldn’t be as shocked to see unorthodox matchmaking. At the end of the day if something doesn’t work well then it just doesn’t work well - and for the record I don’t think that the Souls series work great either, rather that they have tempered me on weird mechanics to the point where this stuff doesn’t phase me nearly as much anymore.
