I realize that he couldn't have possibly known about it in advance, but Dan's offhand joke about getting shot to death for selling loose cigarettes couldn't have been more unfortunately timed. Fuckin' woof.

That wasn't a joke; he's talking about wrestler Dino Bravo who got killed by part of the Canadian mob for illegal cigarette trafficking.

Just bought a California King mattress a month or two ago from the fine sponsors at Leesa, and Jeff has it backwards: a California King is four inches longer and four inches narrower (72" wide and 84" long). A regular King is the same length as a queen but much wider (76" wide and 80" long, to a queen's 60" wide).

@kingpk: Oh, I see. I couldn't derive that from context or anything so I'm glad you showed up to let me know. No one ever jokes about wrestling, least of all Dan Ryckert, so I must have been mistaken in assuming that the laughter that preceded and followed that statement was anything other than solemn and mournful.

You can do a fresh install of Windows 10 using their media creator and just putting the Windows 7 cd-key when it asks for a key. Make things way simpler.

Although I took a X79 rig over a Z77 for the extra cores and I certainly don't regret it. Most of the GPU test bench systems run the X99 to eliminate any effects of being CPU bound.

Jeff talking about Jazz made me look him up because I too like the Transformers what the doors become wings...turns out his car mode appears to be a Porsche 935 in Martini & Rossi livery. Jeff has good taste.

Enjoyed the PC talk this week, although I've never heard the term "Hexacore" said so many times...does Will work for HP? :)

It was good timing because I had an old motherboard die on my last week, looking to replace it. Plus I had ordered a Skylake system the week before.

You can get PC talk a lot of places, but it's fun to hear these guys takes on it.

Living in Arizona for 20 years I am now a top sheet only man. I have a comforter that I keep in a box because if it ever gets too cold I usually just turn off my ceiling fan.

So I had one of the haptic feedback mice that Will talked about. It was called the Logitech iFeel mouse.

Anyway, there was one game that had really good support for it - Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (the game that really kicked off the whole WWII shooter craze). Firing an M1 Garand felt great, they had feedback not only for the shots, but actually had a separate, subtle effect for when the clip pops out (the characteristic M1 "ping").

Black & White (remember that hot Lionhead Studios banger?) also supported it - even going so far as having a little sidequest that you would only get if you had that mouse. It involved holding the cursor over magic stones that caused the mouse to vibrate and than you had to pick the right stones based on how much they vibrated.

The very few other support games that supported it were kind of crap. The effects in MoH and B&W were clearly "hand designed", but for other games I think the developers behind the software for the mouse provided some generic plugin for basically automatically generating vibration effects based on sounds effects in the game. It very much felt like the mouse was just hooked up to one of the sound channels in the game. So you'd get some generic rumbles during explosions or other loud sounds effects, but nothing that felt particularly great.

I still have my Logitech iFeel mouse in a box somewhere, every year I randomly try and fail to search for those rumble drivers.

As a Mizzou graduate and a current resident of Kansas City, I can confirm Dan's description of the MU/KU rivalry (which has it's roots in the civil war) is completely accurate and the most ignorant thing ever.

@singing_pigs: I think 21 is when they start. They finish around 31:00 (premium but I trim the intro song).

If you fast fwd, you'll miss the name of the next game because they only say it once: Assemblance. It's the VR game Dan thought might be Frog Fractions 2 and Jeff wants faster movement speed.

Umbrella Corps is after that.

Teleportation over shapeshifting, no contest. Teleportation has a useful, everyday application whereas shapeshifting would mainly be for people like Dan who just want to fuck with other people.

I still maintain that the ultimate power for a mostly-normal-but-enhanced life would be Hiro Nakamura's powers from Heroes. I can't remember if they ever gave it a formal name in the show, but it's pretty much temporal powers/power over time and space. He can freeze time (although it's later revealed to just slow down time to an incredible degree but who cares same thing) and also teleport anywhere he wants to. Those would be, in my opinion, the two best powers in an real life setting to have. I've thought about this too much.

Man... as someone who built a PC a couple months ago and enjoys that stuff... the PC segment was torturous. One of the few times I completely spaced out while listening to the cast. Rest of the ep was good tho.

I hate when people say a movie isn't good but they love it. Fuck that, embrace what you like. Independence Day is a goddamn sci-fi action movie classic. A fantastic movie.

@preacha: Yeah... I did a clean install of Windows 10 from USB last week with my 7 key. I still prefer 7 over 10 for everyday use but installing 10 was a breeze.
