Dan was sadly the only guy left on this site that seemed to genuinely have fun at doing what he did. But good thing that I already canceled my subscription after the terrible GOTY "content", so loosing access to premium will not be that much of bummer.

While I do think Abby has brought some enthusiasm to the table, Dan definitely was what basically saved the site after Ryan passed away. With things already being on a downward trajectory for quite some time (albeit with definite high points during that), I really do feel like this is something that will be impossible to recover from.

Damn...

This might be the end of my time here. Dan was very much the one who brought new life to the site for me back when he and Jason were brought on, and really kept me around with the fun series and antics out east.

I'm excited for the new venture he's going into but this is a huge blow for the site.

You ruined 2020 Dan.

There is certainly going to be a hole on the site moving forward. As many other people have said, Dan brought so much excitement and optimism for games to Giant Bomb. It'll be hard for the others to fill his shoes.

I'm excited about the prospect a new hire. This place needs a jolt of energy.

I would have put money on Dan staying at Giant Bomb until the day he retired. Didn't see that one coming. That said, from my detached perspective as a fan, it was time.

They could never replace Ryan, and I still miss that dude a lot, but Dan was an injection of energy they needed at the time to move forward, and went on to take part in some of my favorite content ever on the site. He also had a tendency to dominate whatever he was involved with, and I think some features really suffered for that. I know I'm in the minority there. But he seems like a good dude by all accounts and he's gotten to live several dream jobs so good for him. I'd wish him luck but I feel like he's got that covered.

The upside to this is that GB kinda needed to regroup after a really disappointing GOTY and some new blood should help with that. I kinda hope Dan's replacement is the opposite of Dan.

For the love of all that's good in the world please hire another woman.

This isn't great for the site obviously. He's half the reason I've kept a sub for the last couple of years. Hoping east (and west) get someone with even the slightest amount of enthusiasm and positivity as he had.

Absolutely shattered. Dan always injected so much effort & creativity into the segments & shows he put together. Plus his enthusiasm & positivity was a great counterpoint to a lot of the cynicism from the others.

Possibly a tad hyperbolic but I honestly worry about GB’s output going forward. Who on the current staff does what Dan does?

He came in loving Kojima and hating anime, and left the complete opposite.

He also brought lots of life and entertainment to the website. I hope every new day continues to be the best of his life, as he so often claims.

What kind of jank ass TV is Vinny watching The Witcher on? It looks fantastic (jokes about the Nilfgard armor costume design aside). The performances are also so good. I've already watched the season twice.
