Honestly, I’m with Dan on the emulator front. I don’t have the PS1 Mini, but I do have NES and SNES Minis, and making them “better” is a great and easy experience, that leaves you with a nice and clean UI. I’ve fucked with PC emulators, and all of the front end UI that I’ve seen there are pure trash. RetroArch is mildly ok, but I would 100% rather just hook up my NES or SNES to play those games on that.

If Jeff G could just design a great front end and make controller support simple, I would pay him some good money for that service.

And I still haven’t figured out how to get games to reliably work in emulators, so I happily and gladly buy them on Switch.

To be fair the names are confusing from an outside perspective but those other ones (Xenogears & Xenosaga) still haven't had games released for YEARS Xenoblade is up to three games since then.

My son is 8 and has told me that he "wants to make a game". So we started down the RPG maker path.

I have no clue if my emails have been received I sent in. I sent in some gold stuff (IMO) relating to McDonald's Pizza in Orlando and a special themed gift shop and it wasnt mentioned anywhere DESPITE being a topic of discussion on both shows. I even provided some pictures :(

I think Sony is stopping all game codes to all retailers, not just physical cards for specific games, so like the digital codes from Amazon that Vinny mentioned will also be ending (unless I’m misinterpreting Sony’s message). This method was very handy for me, as you can just buy the game from the retail store and not have to buy more PSN points cards than you need to cover the sale tax that PSN will charge you when you buy the game. Buying the game code figures in the sale tax and then you’re all done. I will never, ever trust Sony with my credit card, as they are complete morons, so PSN points cards are all I will be able to use from now on. Other good thing about these specific game codes from retailers is that you can get whatever benefits that the retailer is offering for the physical disc copy of the game. I got a sweet Sekiro letter opener from GameStop because I pre-ordered the digital game (I pre-ordered the game on the day before release, after all the reviews came out saying how great it was).

I don’t know what Sony is doing over there, but I really hope Microsoft pulls back in the lead this next “console” generation, because otherwise Sony will just keep shoving their heads deeper into the sand if they don’t have any reason to put up a fight.

As far as Zelda goes, A Link to the Past is the best. Period. Full stop. No lifelines needed Regis. If you haven't played it, you owe it to yourself to do so, particularly if you grew up post-SNES.

There's an entire generation of people who think Ocarina of Time is the definitive Zelda, and that makes me sad. Ocarina is a good game, don't get me wrong, but at the same time I've always thought it's vastly overrated. Early polygonal Link can never beat full sprite Link and something about the N64's sound and music rub me the wrong way. A Link to the Past did the faux-orchestral thing so much better. It also didn't have Navi, which makes it an automatic winner in my book.

If you think a Metal Gear concert is embarrassing, try going to a Kingdom Hearts concert.

Re: Sexy Transformers, I would like to point out that it is typically Starscream that has gotten all the female fans. Can't resist those dulcet Chris Latta tones.

It is so wearying to hear about how people love the latest Souls game. It's like having a friend who won't leave a bad relationship. They keep going on and on about the latest unbelievable shit their partner's pulled - still insisting that, no, you don't understand, their partner loves them, really - and you just want them to dump the fucker.

Xenoblade Chronicles is an amazing game and no one played it.

I don't know who is at the top of the writing totem pole on Bloodlines 2, but to clarify, Brian Mitsoda (designer and writer of the first game) is lead narrative designer of Bloodlines 2, while Cara Ellison is the senior writer.

@capncrunch: I've still got, I think, a either shrink wraped..or mint/good-condition disk of the wii version sitting somewhere (safely) in my house. I couldn't get over the control scheme and, having long ago unplugged my wii, don't wish too set it back up for a single game. Likewise, I would prefere to be playing the remastered/updated X version..but its on a deader then dead console.

Chronicles X is a game I really wish they would release on switch, such that you could play it and then 2, as part of my hesitation for getting a switch and XBC 2 is "I should play one first right?". Amazing as it might be, (and as massive a fan of xenogears and xenosaga as I am) XC is not worth 300+ dollars, and the upset of my entire tv/entertainment space setup to play. Why its not on the switch, I think I know (cost) but sad faces all around either-way.

Vinny's rant on how splintered Zelda games are on various Nintendo consoles was amazing.

@bladededge: X and the original are two completely different games fyi. The original only had bad port to the 3DS.

X is the one with the sweet mecha and is completely unrelated to the other 2, to the point that Smash almost pretends it doesn't exist (no music from it, for instance). The original has Shulk.

It’s a shame they don’t have any awareness or reverence for the Xenoblade series, although I understand why. If anything they are games Jason would play, and I don’t think he was even in to them. On top of that, the Xenoblade games are incredibly long, and, aside from XC2, there isn’t really a convenient way to play them.

The topic of how to introduce your kids to games and which games to introduce first is always a strange one to me. I understand wanting to make it a good experience for your kids but the vast majority of us managed to get into this hobby without carefully curated guidance from our parents about the quality of games we played.

I would, without any hint of regret, intentionally sabotage and direct/close family member's shitty old CRT/SD television and force them to get a new HD display. those TCL 4K TVs are way too nice for how affordable they are (a few hundred bucks) to deny. I wouldn't do it if I knew they were legit hard-on for cash, or they weren't like my mom/dad, but yeah. I'd never tell them or anyone else at all, but I'd totally pour mtn dew or some shit into those old pieces of garbage. Luckily no one in my family is really like that.

like serious I understand gamers like those lagless CRTs for old video games and whatever bullshit, but if I had to watch a movie I loved on some shitty boobtube thing, I'd have to go lay down.

oh and the heaviness of those old things...FUCK that.
