@muppio: People have fond memories because it was very ambitious and we'd seen very little like it at the time, but despite people having some nostalgia feelings for it really even when it came out most people and critics agreed it was just a hot mess.

So in short, it is an /important/ game in Video Game history, because of how it helped games evolve, but it was not ever a /good/ game.

Property tax all depends on the state that you live in. For example some states are 0.5% per year like Delaware and some are like 2.19% like New Jersey. And that percent is based on the house value/cost.

So say that you have a 200,000 dollar house:

To live in NJ, its $4830 dollars a year, EVEN if the house is totally paid off. So if you pay off your house completely, for the rest of your life, you will pay "rent" on the land the house is built on basically.

Also, I know this is stupid of me... but I keep y elling at the screen for him to lower the load before he starts driving with it! Even though there's not any kind of realistic physics engine in this game that would require him to do so.

I legitimately loved the forklift stuff in this game back in the day.

That's right, fuckers. 2 hour lunches AND daily raises. You all WISH you had a job at the harbor.

Mark has been working there for a while, so he makes about 80,000 yen per crate.

Fun NYC story: I was on the subway when a busker entered, all ready to give his spiel. A tourist randomly decided to ask him for directions to the 9/11 memorial, and he explained for about five minutes, then launched into his spiel after. That's how cool New Yorkers are about helping.

@danryckert I work at lowe's in the garden department, lots of forklift. If you put a coin down and drive backwards over it, with the fork pretty flat on the ground actually touching, the coin will flip up onto the fork as you're driving backwards and it hits the end of the fork.

They were talking about assembly line work. When I was 14 I had a week of internship at a factory that makes frozen pies and cakes. Since the machines does almost everything I just stood there for 8 hours watching a machine put cream on a cake or put a pie inside a box. Every hour or so I had to jump in because the machine fucked up and started putting the lid wrong or missing and put half the cream outside the cake or such. But for the most part I had to stand and watch. It was really boring. The worst day was when I was at a machine that was only semi-automated so I had to take a box out, push a botton that pushed the cakes into the box and then push the box into a machine that taped it shut. Doesn't sound so hard but imagine doing that about 2500 times per day. The one fun day was when the last part of the pie assembly line failed and was broken several hours and they could not stop the earlier stages of the line so the machine was spitting out about 2500 pies per hour onto the floor and I was running around like a maniac trying to save as many as possible before they reached the end of the conveyer belt and dropped onto the floor.

Lots of places gave it good reviews when it released. Lots of people have enjoyed the game when playing it for the first time in recent years. The game is divisive. It's ok to not like it but you shouldn't dismiss the many people that do.

Shenmue 2 fixes a ton of the issues people have though while retaining and expanding on some of the uniqueness. I could see the GB crew enjoying that game if they play it (and it has no waiting around).

Man Mark is my new favorite guy. I thought the thing in the morning would be that hazing thing, but it was awesome. He prepares a race track for his co-workers, gives out prizes even if you came last. Man what a great way to start your work day.

Even though it totally shouldn't I find it slightly infuriating how much Vinny messed up that Forklift race. He totally had the controls down and then he just messed it all up.

I love them making fun of Mark's pronunciation of "Ryo" when none of them has ever pronounced it correctly. They continually call him Ryu, for christ's sake.

@kidaamnesiac: I'll take your word for it, I just honestly do not remember reading a favorable review, or talking to anyone that enjoyed playing it back when it came out. Now I knew plenty that were impressed by it's scope and loved that it was ambitious and wanted to see them keep working at it because they felt they were on to something special, but they all found playing the game frustrating.

I did enjoy Shenmue 2 and I think they made a lot of smart little improvements.

As a guy who does forklifting for a job, watching Vinny and others drive around while the forks are up is making me cringe a bit. That's a big safety no no.

And honestly, the job is boring as all hell. But the pay is surprisingly decent for a job that doesn't require a college education.

It must be so amazing to get paid on the same day you did the work.

I drive a fork lift 12 hours a day. All these drivers riding around with their loads lifted is terribly unsafe! Also, picking up a quarter is easy. You just push down on the edge, back up slowly, and it flips up on your fork.

I prefer the forklift missions in GTA San Andreas.

Who would've thought there are so many forklift drivers among giant bomb subscribers.

I just love that Dan learns the bulk of his core adult life information while recording Giant Bomb videos...

The race seems to be the first genuinely fun thing this game had to offer.

Vinny's offhand joke about lunch breaks reminded me that I got fired from a job after about a week for not taking lunch breaks during training. Turns out that an employer that'll schedule you two hours of work a week really won't enjoy having to pay that extra $5 for another half hour.

I totally thought that Mark was going to be part of the Mad Angels and try to beat you up in the morning, but instead he organised a sweet ass forklift race and even gave you a price despite being horrible at it.

I am sorry for doubting your, Mark. You're a pretty cool dude.

So, they are on disc 3, anyone know how long it will take them minimum to finish the game?

Wait if the old homeless guy knows all those fighting moves then why did Ryo (or Dio) have to save him from the bikers earlier?

@spitznock: Most day-wage jobs are shit pay for back-breaking physical labor. I put in some time doing it when I was younger. The opposite of amazing.

I've always wondered if you have to actually place five different ways in the races in order to get the full collection of forklift toys. Would you have to throw some races?

@gregalor: I think that's the case given that you get the number corresponding to your position.

@srraven:Assuming they stick to the one episode per in-game day format, there's probably only about 6 episodes left. They actually got through the game faster than I thought, it's really not as long as I remembered. Shenmue II is longer though.

@gregalor: Yes, that is correct. I remember doing that on my "perfect" run of the game way back in the day. It was actually a lot of fun trying to place in an exact spot, it added a wrinkle to it. And of course, completing your capsule toy collection is a nice bonus.

- No Manspreading (the fine for that should be dick being smashed under a rock until it falls off)

- No S/HeBagging (putting you bags on the seat to either side of you)

- If you don't fit, you don't sit - don't shove your 3ft ass into a 1ft spot on a seat

- Don't lean on the pole

- Don't block the entrance or exit

- Please be washed/clean. I don't care how 'crunchy, back to nature' you want to be, if you want to use modern transport you WILL wash like a modern human.

- No cutting nails, no painting nails, no hairspraying, no perfume spritzing, no combing of your nasty hair

- No meal eating, no pungent food; but candy bars, energy bars are fine - if they don't crumb.

- No screaming or hitting your kids - displaying your bad parenting is not necessary

- NO PHONES CONVERSATIONS - FOR CHRIST SAKE SHUT UP!

Before you get on or off

- Be ready for your stop! Have your bags in hand, your device stowed half way between the last stop and your stop - WE WON'T WAIT

- Have your fare or fare cards ready before the transport gets to you. Count your change and flatten your bills before the transport shows up - WE WON'T WAIT

- Get off and walk 10 steps away before you even think of stopping to consult a map or phone

- One big bag only. If you have a pile of luggage - call a fucking cab! If you cannot get on or off in a timely manner you have too much baggage!

- No baby carriages! Have your baby under you arm, your stroller collapsed, and your FARE in your god-damn hand. Ask for help AHEAD OF TIME if you cannot manage that shit before the bus comes! (Honestly, the concept of a baby carnage or pram the size of a SMART car is stupid. Hold your god-damn baby! Get a sling or a baby backpack if you live in a city and take public transport!)

Too bad you can't play the entire game riding a forklift. It's surprisingly mobile.

I wonder if they have the bonus disc that came with the game. It was a super weird demo/tutorial where higher resolution versions of main characters, even Chai, would stand around and talk about the different things you could do in the game while the camera swooped around them. It was... something to see.

The driver of forklift #2 must've been a young Pastor Maldonado.

@mixmastershake: I think they did mention Disc 4 early on and said they would check it out if they had time. I really hope they do, for the weirdness and a "Maybe we should have looked at this first" moment.
