$15 really does seem like a great price for such a polished game.  Most of the stuff you typically see on live arcade doesn't look nearly that good.

Agreed.  It's been a while since I played a proper Battlefield game, and I wasn't that thrilled with the direction BF2 took with everything being unlockable.  While I'm one of the minority that liked 2142, it's of little use when nobody is playing it and I'm left with bots.

1943 is a great game that captures what made that Wake Island demo one of the most played demos of all time for PC.  I hope they plan to expand the game either via DLC or some form of sequel that covers other parts of the campaign.  There were a few maps in Europe that were staples as well.

Now wheres that reborn version of Tribes I read about?

"True Sequel"

Yeah, bullshit. A battlefield game with a 24 player cap is not a true fucking sequel.

@Mooshu: Calm down, the player count needed to be reduced in order to compensate for the size of the maps.

I still haven't played this game yet , my xbox got the red rings of death before I had the chance to purchase it.

Download it right fucking now! As a BF fanatic, I'm loving the new action. The formula has been tweaked enough from BFBC (and of course the PC games) to keep things fresh. It's only 15 bucks, and has 4 maps. If there was any benefit for buying it twice, I would (well, probably not, but it's worth at least 20).

This will keep you occupied over until BFBC2 comes out. And that should keep you at least until BF3 gets a date. BF3 could be quite a ways off. I'm sure they're going to examine the reaction to 1943 PC before they lock-in a lot of things for BF3. The BF formula is evolving and a lot of PC gamers are very set in their ways. Just look at the utter refusal to give 2142 a decent chance by most of the BF2 hardcores; and 2142 was the most dynamic, balanced and replayable of all PC BF's.

In fact I was just going to go play a few rounds of 1943 until I started thinking about 2142. I think I'll go play that right now instead. 420+ hours deep and still loving it.

@DukeTogo: Do you have Northern Strike? There are still plenty servers running core 2142, but I've been playing solely NS on FCW's server. It's usually well populated during the US's afternoon-late evening.

No sir, I've played this game, as a former BF player and the maps are the EXACT same size, scale to scale. I played Wake Island today on the 360 and it felt like a ghostland, I'd encounter maybe ONE guy outside of a hot spot. BF is supposed to b e about massive fights, this is not Battlefield, if it was something else, with smaller maps I'd be fine, but it's not Battlefield. Regenerating health is not Battlefield.

Now, I'll have to wait and see if the PC version is able to redeem anything with max players, but since DICE loves gimping PC for consoles lately, I don't expect much.

Do not download this game. If you are a fan of the original BF and BF2 you will hate this game. I am a huge fan of both those games, and of 2142, and even Modern Combat for consoles, but this game retains none of what those games had in them. 12 VS 12 is not battlefield, thats more like a CoD or Killzone type game.  Theres no way to communicate with your teamates other than voice chat, which since the NXE and party system came out, nobody uses in games anyway. I bought this game hoping it would be reminiscent of 1942 and BF2 but I was sorely dissapointed, all i got was a dumbed down version of Bad Company in WW2, set in an overdone setting. This game will last MAYBE a week and then you'll forget it even exists. Please dont waste your money, wait for the TRUE sequel, BF3, it's coming, and it's well worth the wait.

Sequel to BF1942? Ehh, there's so much stuff missing and so many things that have changed. I'll just mention a few omissions.

But it does retain enough core aspects of it to still feel appropriately Battlefield. Great fun. $15. You can't lose.

@TomA: I guess it comes down to whether you want the same game as before or something new. I personally think the tweaks are welcome to the console BFs. However nobody should buy the console 1943 expecting a PC experience. Perhaps the PC version will be tweaked to better fit the platform, as DICE hinted was possible.

If you think 15 bucks is too much to spend on something fresh and simple, wait for the PC 1943 and see if you like it better. Stop comparing it to the PC BFs and start comparing it to everything else available at the same price on the same platforms.

Game is great.  If you are some sort of crazy purist expecting the variety that a retail version of BF would have, then you're out of your mind and are missing the point anyway.  But if you are looking for a cheap but fun game that has a lot of depth and gives you a rewarding and highly replayable multiplayer then look no further.  This is fun for 10 minutes or an hour, or more!

Yeah I wasn't going to get this.  Then I found out it was $15 and was not a crappy rip-off map pack but a full game.  SOLD!
