Why is everyone so depressed about next year? You have Doom Eternal, Cyberpunk, FF7 remake, Dying Light 2, Animal Crossing, Vampire The Masquerade 2, No More Heroes 3, Nioh 2, The Last of Us 2, Halo Infinite, and I'm only listing the known quantities. In comparison to this year next year feels like 1998.

I don't understand the fear around the new Animal Crossing. I don't think the crafting is going to ruin the gameplay of the series. I think people are just weary of change to the series since it's always followed a very similar formula every game. I think the crafting will add more to do in the games and the whole process of building the island into a full fledged town fits so well with the idea of AC being a game where you slowly build up progress through real time. As a hardcore fan of the series for about 14 years or so now the path building and all that is EXACTLY what I and many others have wanted from the series. Just look at all the custom paths people make with patterns in previous games, and all the cool things people have done to their towns through modding.

@gvalo: Holy shit I'm with you there. I'm on a non-profit marketing/Dev team of 7 people and we've been doing stand up 10 at 10am meetings and trying to force Trello boards for 2 weeks sprints for months now. All of us hate it, but it doesn't seem to be leaving anytime soon.

Yeah, our office is going through an Agile kick right now, too. It works fine for development until your resident Pointy Haired Boss, who has no idea what Agile actually is, decides that it should apply to everything in the company. Then it's nothing but stand-ups and table plannings. It makes tasks that used to take up 5 minutes of one person's time take up 10 minutes of 10 people's time.

@sambatime: I’m with you that a ton of people are gonna love all the customizability of the new one, but me personally I prefer a very chill animal crossing. My favorite is still probably the GC one or WW, New Leaf I’ve played a butt ton of because it’s pretty and on the 3DS but it was veering into being a little too busy for me. I liked having a 30 minute loop, check in once a day and talk to dudes and find fossils and fish a bunch and catch any weird bugs I didn’t recognize and buy furniture then shut it off.

I’m mega excited for the new one but I’m very worried it’ll have too much to do and my little escapist world will be tainted.

But that’s just me! And maybe Jeff? The number of folks who put in TIME and make insane worlds is huge and those folks will be stoked. I’ve been playing one village since release of New Leaf and you’d think it still looks fairly like the starting version. Just built a cafe and campsite and threw up some fruit trees and planted hella flowers and that’s it.

Dang nothing on the last of us part 2 but I'm sure you're all just as excited as we all are! Need that hardcore violence Sony ASAP.

“Like A Dragon” is actually the Yakuza series’ Japanese name so they sort of did what Capcom did with “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.”

There is something hilarious about hearing Jeff say that he can't get too excited for Cyberpunk 2077 because he knows what that game is going to be after immediately coming off a Game of the Year podcast where he argued to have (another) Call of Duty added to the top 10 games of the year.

The Yakuza games in japan are titled, "Ryu Ga Gotoku" (like a dragon)

Persona 5 Scramble looks legitimately good, it looks like the same Persona structure & story but with different combat and is a sequel to P5 which is very exciting! I have never played a Dynasty Warriors game but that part hopefully doesn't drag down everything for me...

Best Giant Bomb podcast intro in a looooong time. All that banter had some strong vibes of early Bombcasts in the basement office.

Not surprised by the Metal Gear codex noise on older people's phones. Metal Gear appealed to a broader base than most games at the time. An old friend of mine who is nearly 20 years my senior (almost 60 now) played the hell out of Metal Gear Solid, but played almost nothing else. He does not come off as a gamer in any way, shape, or form.

So who thinks Cyberpunk will be censored on PS4 since they felt the need to censor a nude butt in DMC 5 I won't be surprised. I know they later patched it to remove the censorship but the fact that they did it all makes me think Sony want's to be strict about partial and full nudity. Its one thing to not allow it in there first party games but 3rd party shouldn't be effected by it.

Also WTF no mention of Last of Us 2.
