I recently rewatched this press conference, but from a 1 gigabite mpeg that I had downloaded from Gamespot back in the day and left on a hard drive. The video is 480x360 and interlaced all to hell and I loved it.

Perfect, I've been craving those Tapes of late.

The part with "VelocityGirl", just wow.

Kameo was going to be on Xbox as well. I've played a leaked version of it and it looks basically the same as the 360 version, but at a lower resolution/frame rate.

Fun fact: The Tech Demo Square Enix showed off would eventually go on to be Final Fantasy 14.

I rented it. Gameplay was bad, costumes were good.

Seeing the original 360 interface damn near bought a tear to my eye.

Lost Odyssey might well be my favorite Final Fantasy game.

Something funny about that 360 promo they showed at the beginning there; that soccer player who is 'hanging out' with everyone, was Arsenal superstar Thierry Henry. I always loved that ad, because it's so incredibly low-key.

The way they dressed these guys to look hip, is hilarious!

Yo dog.. Lost Odyssey is pretty good. And some great music. And they stuck to the OG style turn-based party combat. FF13 would go on to ruin the series..

Edit: Also, I am actually playing FF11 right now while watching this lol And that weird tech demo teaser thing (believed to be concept footage for FF14 at the time), the design of that city is literally being implemented in the latest FF14 expansion coming out in July. Wild.

This definitely feels like the moment in time or inflection point where jrpgs and really Japanese games in general were at their height. I feel like oblivion is such a perfect example of how western rpgs really came into their own on consoles and Japanese rpgs really just kinda fell off a year or so after this.

As someone who works in tech it blows my fucking mind that Microsoft went on stage at E3 to announce/sell their new console and did it by listing of their fucking target Personae like it was a pitch meeting to a client.

Also, dammit Ben stop groaning whenever the Godfather game is mentioned! That game was good! The Wii version in particular was great.

Destroy All Humans hype

Sounds like Jeff almost spilled the beans about a new Destroy all Humans game. There've been rumors that THQ is going to announce a new one at E3, and during this video Jeff says "Hey, Destroy all Humans! They should announce... well..." and then he totally shuts up and tapers off.... haha. Sounds like he saw something at judge's week.

It's always hilarious to hear all the same buzzwords and marketing spiels being used over a decade ago in the exact same ways as they are today. Can't wait to hear them all again at this year's E3!

That Final Fantasy concept footage is finally going to be realized in-game, in the newest FFXIV expansion. Funny coincidence that this video goes up just a month before its launch.

Lost Odyssey was so damn good. If you have an Xbox One and like a solid JRPG, I highly recommend it.
