P3P is on sale for $10 on PSN. Should I get it or am I better off just waiting for Persona 4 The Golden? I have never played a Persona game before but the Endurance run has made me interested. I have a Vita.

Persona 3 Portable is $10 on PSN. Should I get it?
Go for it, Persona 3 is awesome and the PSP version fixes my main problem with the game. That being the inability to control your party members.
Buy it lest I shit on your dreams.
In all seriousness it's a very good JRPG that's quite different from the usual fantasy affair. It's not a perfect game by any means but it ranks as one of my personal favourites in a long time.

Yeah, this was a big deal for me since I played P4 before P3; I probably would have been super frustrated otherwise.Go for it, Persona 3 is awesome and the PSP version fixes my main problem with the game. That being the inability to control your party members.

You'll never know who those characters are in Persona 4 :Arena unless you get it.
I should probably buy it too. But Persona without Jeff and Vinny providing commentary just won't be the same.
If you have a PS3, I'd say that you should definitely get FES off of that store. It's also 10 bucks and unfortunately, P3P is pretty stripped down. If a PSP is the only you can experience that game, then you should absolutely do it. P3 is my favourite game of all time.
I normally suggest FES edition for PS3 off playstation 2 classics but P3P is great as well.
P3P has full party controls but cutscenes and characters interacting will just be pictures, which is why I prefer FES, Persona 3's cutscenes are just incredible.
FES is also at the same price too.
But its still a great game so go for it.
Note:if you do get FES, make multiple save files, there is a memory bug in the game but that normally fixes it.
One of my all time favorite games for $10 !!! Of course its worth it silly . It may not be the pure P3 experience but I played it first on the PSP, and I fucking love that game.

I thought P3P also had the FES content. And new P3P content. Is that incorrect?
That is incorrect. P3P does not have "The Answer" part of FES and it is in the style of a visual novel throughout the whole game, which removes a significant amount of the presentation that people came to appreciate in the original game. There is a reason most preferred FES to P3P and that Atlus acknowledged they disliked the change and were happy the Vita came along for Persona 4 Golden.
You should definitely get it. It's one of the best JRPGs in years.
And if you can get FES cheap later, you should.

I'd say get both FES and PSP. Play male protagonist on FES and female on PSP. At least that's what I plan on doing.
This is a good plan, if one has the time and money to do so. I played through FES so I'll be happy to play as the female in P3P, but it wouldn't be the way I'd advise to experience the game the first time.
@Marz: Persona 1 is... kind of bad. The battle system is an unpleasant mess, and that's made worse by the encounter rate being through the roof. The story and characters don't redeem the game, either. It's only worth getting to see how far the series has come, in my opinion.
Persona 2 Innocent Sin is better, but it still doesn't have a lot of the features that made Persona 3 and its successors so popular. I don't know how much it costs, but I'd say it's worth it if it's under $10.
@Marz: One more vote to ignore the first Persona, but you reeeally should should check out Innocent Sin (and Eternal Punishment, thought I heard it was on the way to the PSPs/PSVs as well?). It is an older game, and the focus is a bit different, but the good stuff in 3 & 4 would not be possible without the two 2:s. I think the gameplay still holds up, but most importantly the characters, story and world are just beyond greatness.
On a more bitter note for the rest of the thread: I really hate North American exclusiveness that gets my hopes up...
