Overview
Daughter and consort of Brahma, with whom she mated to produce Manu, the first man. It is said that Brahma grew his iconic four heads so that he might look upon her beauty from every direction.
When Shiva was excluded from one of Daksha's sacrifices he grew so furious that he injured many of those present, cutting off Sarasvati's nose in the process. She is credited with the invention of sanskrit and is sometimes identified with Vach or Shatarupa. Traditional depictions sometimes show her riding either a peacock or a swan.
