Overview
Risk II is a digital strategy board game developed by Deep Red and published by Hasbro Interactive (under their MicroProse label) for the PC on March 22, 2000.
A computer game adaptation of Hasbro's board game Risk, and is often seen as a sequel to its earlier 1996 adaptation, Risk II features a reworked mouse-based game interface, updated mission modes and rule options, two maps to choose from (Classic and Advanced, the latter with added territories and connections), AI opponents with different strategies, and an updated chat system (with "Iconic Communication", or "I-Com", for quickly making alliances).
Rather than the "Ultimate Risk" variant of the 1996 game, this game features a unique "SameTime Risk" variant, in which all players make their battle plans simultaneously, all of which get resolved at the same time in the game's "Battle Resolution" phase. This features new battle types (including "Border Clashes", "Mass Invasions", "Spoils of War", and "Surge Attacks") and a new D12 loaded dice system to determine each battle's outcome.
The game later received a conversion for Mac computers by Westlake and MacSoft on October 17, 2000. The PC version also received a digital release by iWin on April 19, 2006, with a Steam release on August 24, 2009.
