When the player character (re)visits a certain area or location that was also present in a previous game, or visited later on in the same game, with some alterations.
Sometimes designers add old-school things on purpose to enhance game design. These games tend to be heavily inspired by hardware limitations of older systems. NES, Atari 2600, and early computer platforms (DOS, Commodore 64, MSX, etc...) are common sources of inspiration.
A remake/re-imagining of a game that uses lower fidelity assets, due to a deliberate design choice.
Emulation is the means by which games intended for one platform are rendered playable on another. Emulation is used for various purposes, ranging from allowing older games to be playable on newer hardware to software development for various platforms.
The idea of taking an existing franchise and starting over from scratch, overhauling the gameplay and sometimes going so far as to remove it from any connection to previous games in a series. Such is sometimes done when attempting to revitalize a franchise that is showing its age and has fallen into disfavor.
For MMO's that survive for a number of years, the developers often revamp the look of the game to keep it fresh and current. This could mean redesigning the character models or even entire zones/regions of the game.
HD collections are multiple games in a franchise that have been remastered to comform to HD standards and then put on a single disc.
A console game is high definition if it operates at a resolution of at least 720p, or 1280x720. A console able to achieve this resolution is HD-capable. For a variety of reasons, the term does not apply to PC games.

Porting is a term used when a game designed to run on one platform is converted to run on a different platform. Quality varies, though some titles are packaged with extras.
Some remakes allow you to switch back to how the game originally looked.
When a developer creates a game that could be perceived as a new instalment in an existing franchise that they've worked on before, but doesn't share the same name due to licensing issues or other reasons, it's called a spiritual successor.
