    Gorgeous cartoon visuals hide a deceptively tough nightmare 0

    Every game should have challenge, no question about that. But Ubisoft's original side-scrolling platformer Rayman is sadistic in its difficulty curve to the point of unrivalled frustration.Released in September 1995 as part of the original Sony Playstation launch line-up (as well as initially on Atari Jaguar and then ported to Sega Saturn) you can see why it would have made a few heads turn.     A classic side-scrolling platform game. 0

    Rayman is a classic side-scrolling platform game. It's as simple as that. While it's nothing groundbreaking or genre-defining, it really offered a lot more innovation in a genre that was beginning to die at the time of its release. The graphics had imagination,  the music was the real deal (not that MIDI crap that most platformers had), the gameplay was unique, and the game itself introduced a new character that inspired a whole franchise of games: Rayman.  Rayman didn't have speed like Sonic, o...
