    Overview

Queen Sectonia is a character in the Kirby franchise who made her debut in Kirby: Triple Deluxe as the main antagonist and final boss.

    History

“Sectonia and Taranza were once good friends, but Sectonia became obsessed with vanity and delusions of grandeur. It wasn't long before her heart went evil, turning her into the power-hungry monarch she is today.”

VS Queen SectoniaKirby: Triple Deluxe Pause Screen description

“Queen Sectonia is a mistress of manipulative magic. Once upon a time, she looked similar to her insectoid underlings, but her current beautiful yet deadly bee-like form is a body that she took over through the use of her magic. I wonder how the minions who knew her before felt, serving a mistress who changes her appearance like that? I think that stopping at nothing to sit on the throne, even going so far as to discard one’s true form, is one of the traits that makes a true final boss.”

Prior to the events of her debut in Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Queen Sectonia and Taranza were actually close friends, and perhaps maybe even lovers. In many cameo appearances after Triple Deluxe, it is shown that she was once a spider-like being resembling Taranza, and one of the CPU nicknames in Kirby's Dream Buffet is "Q.Joronia" (in Japanese, タランザ&ジョロニア Taranza and Joronia), implying that Joronia was who Sectonia originally was before her appearance in Triple Deluxe. One fateful day, Taranza gifted Joronia with the Dimensional Mirror from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. By this point in time, the events of that game have already happened, seeing as how Dark Meta Knight's secret boss fight in Triple Deluxe's Dededetour and True Arena modes is his revenge for his previous defeat. Possibly because of Dark Meta Knight, the mirror began to corrupt Joronia the longer she gazed into it, gradually becoming obsessed with power and vanity, and started to use her species' parasitic abilities to leech off of other lifeforms in order to become beautiful.

“But how exactly did Queen Sectonia actually get her hands on the mirror? Well, her underling Taranza stole it from the Mirror World, and gave it as tribute to his beauty-obsessed queen! Sadly, it was gazing into the mirror day after day that led to her mind being twisted towards tyranny by its power.”

She continued to do this for over a thousand years to countless hosts, completely losing her old personality, appearance, and identity in the process, becoming the Queen Sectonia seen in her debut. Of course, the People of the Sky weren't too happy about being ruled over with an iron fist by a vain and tyrannical ruler, and sends down a seed to the world below, Dream Land, that grows into the Dreamstalk, hoping that the "Hero of the Lower World" would arrive and free them from the queen's wrath, but Taranza, who has been bewitched by Sectonia to stay be her side as her loyal servant despite all of her corruption, saw through their plan, and decided to intervene by kidnapping the hero first. But Taranza wound up making the mistake of kidnapping King Dedede instead of Kirby, leading to Kirby chasing him down to rescue his friend. Taranza would try to deter his pursuer throughout his quest, but each attempt failed until eventually, Kirby arrived at Royal Road, the highest island of Floralia and where Queen Sectonia resides. As one final attempt to defeat Kirby, Taranza uses his magic to force Dedede to fight Kirby as Masked Dedede, by literally pulling his strings as if he were a puppet. Of course, Kirby still prevailed in the end, and reunites with Dedede. Sectonia, witnessing this, decides that she has no use for a fool that cannot follow orders, and blasts Taranza out of her palace before dealing with Kirby herself. After being overwhelmed by Kirby's strength, weakened but not willing to give up, Sectonia merges with the Dreamstalk in an attempt to defeat Kirby, and nearly manages to claim victory by feigning defeat, if it weren't for Taranza and Dedede arriving at the last moment, the former having come to his senses and deciding to rebel against his cruel master and former friend, to free Kirby from Sectonia's clutches and empower him with a Miracle Fruit, giving him the unstoppable Hypernova Ability and putting an end to Sectonia once and for all...

...Or was it? In the secret True Arena mode of Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Sectonia's very soul stands as the final challenge Kirby faces. After losing everything, it seems that deep down inside, even Sectonia herself wishes to be put out of her misery in original Japanese text that was lost in translation.

“I’ve continuously leeched off and transferred hosts so many times, which one my real form was… I don’t even remember anymore. There was a voice calling me, but I can no longer hear it. Before this night dawns, I’ll sleep… eternally…”

And in Kirby: Planet Robobot's Meta Knightmare Returns mode, the Haltmann Works Company managed to create a clone of Sectonia out of data collected from the Dreamstalk. Star Dream summons Sectonia Clone to test Meta Knight's strength, and her battle is similar to the real Sectonia's battle in Triple Deluxe. When defeated, she briefly reverts to her original spider-like form before exploding.

“Data was collected from traces of a giant flower the invaders stumbled upon. Cloning it produced the insect queen. Its data contains elements of creatures spanning a period of 1,000 years.

As for Taranza, he is left mourning the loss of his dear Joronia, hopelessly clinging onto her memory and wishing for a miracle that may revive his queen as he remembered her, such as in his Kirby Star Allies' Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go! campaign.
